The Hits and Misses from the ‘Maria’ Venice Film Festival Premiere

The Venice Film Festival premiere of Angelina Jolie’s new film, ‘Maria’, showcased a variety of striking looks. From bold fashion statements to missed opportunities, here’s a roundup of the rest of the looks from last night.

Too Much of EVERYTHING

Eva Herzigová’s appearance was certainly one you couldn’t miss. She stepped out in an Etro x Wolford ‘Paisley Tattoo’ jacquard jersey jumpsuit, paired with a draped black crossover neckline bodysuit and train. Adding even more drama, she accessorized with a Greco-Roman-inspired mask pendant necklace and a jeweled gourmette belt. Topped with back-combed, ‘80s-inspired hair, Eva’s look had a lot going on.

While the ‘Paisley Tattoo’ jumpsuit was the most intriguing element, the look in its entirety was overkill. This outfit would have been better suited for a performance or a music event—it has JLo’s and Beyonce’s names written all over it.

Almost Perfect in Tom Ford

Brazilian actress Camila Queiroz chose a daring semi-sheer ensemble from Tom Ford’s Fall 2024 collection. She styled the look with Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany earrings, a ring, Lock bangles, and a Tiffany Cocktail 2-Hand watch, exuding elegance with every detail. However, the sheer look required seamless underwear, but unfortunately, the visible seams distracted from the otherwise stunning outfit. With the right undergarments, this look could have been a showstopper.  I don’t get why seamless underwear is so hard to acquire for these actresses.  I guess not everyone is wearing SKIMS.

Close to Perfection in Alberta Ferretti

Sveva Alviti, the godmother of the festival, made a striking statement in a hot pink custom Alberta Ferretti chiffon draped bustier gown. The vibrant colour and draping were perfect for the red carpet, but I would have preferred this without the v-neckline.

A Magical Moment in Fendi

Italian actress Miriam Leone had a standout moment in a custom Fendi black strapless ‘smoking’ bustier dress, merging cady and satin duchesse. Styled with tulle and embroidered gloves, as seen on the Fendi Spring 2024 Couture runway, Miriam’s look was pure magic. The ensemble was perfectly executed, embodying a sense of timeless elegance with the gloves giving the look a contemporary twist.

Romantic in Dior

Alba Rohrwacher opted for a classic and romantic look in a Dior Resort 2025 black velvet dress with an embellished neckline and voluminous sleeves. The dress added a poetic flourish to the red carpet, showcasing Alba’s ability to blend sophistication with a touch of whimsy. Her look was effortlessly chic.

A Missed Opportunity with Schiaparelli

Bianca Brandolini’s attempt at a daring look with a Schiaparelli Spring 2024 ensemble fell flat due to poor fit. The underboob reveal was more distracting than daring, as the top seemed too small and too tight. This misstep overshadowed the potential of what could have been a bold fashion statement.
