Atelier Prabal Gurung @ 2024 Met Gala

Prabal Gurung dressed five celebrities in custom Atelier Prabal Gurung designs for the 2024 Met Gala on Monday.

When everyone saw Prabal Gurung hinting at this tennis ball green coloured Atelier Prabal Gurung gown online, everyone assumed it was for Serena Williams, but they forgot about the other tennis champ, Maria Sharapova.

I can see a clear tennis connection. Or perhaps I’ve still got the tenniscore ‘Challengers’ press tour on my mind, and I’m overthinking things.

Either way, I saw this as a beautiful nod to the theme and her career, even with the taffeta cape.

Ugbad Abdi is definitely on my list of favourites wearing this unique Atelier Prabal Gurung gown.

The nude to platinum degrade mermaid embroidered gown would have been striking on its own, but the suspended caged spider web sent this look into another stratosphere.

I am breathless.

Singer Laufey, who was making her Met Gala debut, collaborated with Prabal Gurung, and her twin sister Junia Lin Jónsdóttir, who is a creative director, to design this floral embellishment, blush tone princess gown.

This was probably a bit too princessy for me, but I did love the story of how the ethereal veil was also a nod to the theme, as it was subtly decorated with the notes to a Bach fugue.

Mimi So jewels completed her look.

I love how Prabal Gurung designed this midnight sequin with black jet crystal embroidered lehenga choli gown for Simone Ashley which nods to her Indian heritage.

Demi Lovato returned to the Met Gala for the first time since 2016, wearing an Atelier Prabal Gurung gown that gave us the best of both worlds: dazzling details and 3D paillette flowers.

I’m so delighted that she has stepped out of her all-black, all-of-the-time era.
