Gemma Chan Wore Mithridate To The VOGUE Hong Kong x Andaz Macau Opening Ceremony

Prior to attending the Louis Vuitton Spring 2024 show in Paris, Gemma Chan was in Macau, South China, where she attended the VOGUE Hong Kong x Andaz Macau Opening Ceremony which showcased the work of photographer Wing Shya.
It is at this point that you would expect me to say that the British actress was wearing Louis Vuitton, but if you’ve been around since Gemma’s ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ promo tour days (and prior to this tour if my memory serves me correctly), you will remember that she always championed and spotlighted Asian designers.
Which is why I was delighted to see her wearing this Mithridate Spring 2024 dress, designed by Demon Zhang, who is an alumnus of Central Saint Martins who formerly assisted both Lee Alexander McQueen and John Galliano before launching their own brand in Guangzhou, China.
This dress was a custom creation to ensure that the tulle base matched her skin-tone, and I have to say that Demon Zhang did an amazing job.
Some of you are probably wondering why it was sheer, when the runway dress had a layer and created the same illusion.
I personally prefer the lightness and delicacy of Gemma’s version.
I don’t know about you, but this reminded me of Gemma’s Oscar de la Renta dress worn to the 2021 ‘OSS 117: From Africa With Love’ Cannes Film Festival premiere, because the illusion base layer on that dress was also perfect.
Pearls from Mikimoto completed her look.
