Dame Judi Dench For British Vogue June 2020
Dame Judi Dench graces the cover of the June 2020 edition of British Vogue which was shot by Nick Knight wearing a Dolce & Gabbana floral silk organza trench coat.
In the magazines 104-year history, the 85-year-old actress is the oldest star to appear on the cover.
The previous title was held by a then 81-year-old Jane Fonda for the September 2019 issue.
This is why I celebrated Edward Enninful’s appointment as editor-in-chief of British Vogue. He continues to shatter the long held perception of a Vogue cover (girl) woman and challenge conventional beauty standards.
About the cover he said, “I can’t tell you how pleased I am to see Dame Judi Dench, the unassailable queen of stage and screen, starring on her first Vogue cover at the age of 85.”
Dame Judi was photographed for this issue before lockdown, but in the interview talked about self-isolating at home in Surrey, England
On the pandemic: “I am sure I feel like everyone else, such unprecedented times are quite hard to comprehend. What is a good thing is that it has made people aware of the predicament of others who are completely alone. If a great deal of kindness comes out of this, then that will be a plus.”
On her Cats movie character: “I was unhappy about it, as I looked like a battered, mangy old cat”.
On retirement she joke: “No, no, no, no. Don’t use that word. Not in this house. Not here. Wash your mouth out!”
