Beyonce Knowles Steals The Spotlight At Denzel Washington’s AFI Life Achievement Award Ceremony

Beyonce Knowles appeared on stage to present AFI’s Franklin J. Schaffner Alumni Medal to Melina Matsoukas, who directed the Grammy-winning artist’s ‘Formation’ video, the ‘Thanksgiving’ episode of ‘Master of None’ that featured Lena Waithe and several episodes of Issa Rae’s ‘Insecure,’ during the ceremony to honor actor Denzel Washington at the AFI Life Achievement Award.
The singer wore a custom cream-coloured cloud-like gown by Vietnamese designer Phuong My.

I instantly fell in love with this due to the airy train, and statement-making Maasai-inspired collar, but I wish she had worn her hair up. A braided updo would’ve been stunning with this look.
Gold Jimmy Choo ‘Dochas’ ankle-strap heels, swirly Yvan Tufenkjian earrings, and a ring by Djula completed the look.
I’ve never really had that much of a problem with overdressing, but this look did have me confused as to who was being honoured at this event.
Looking at Issa Rae, this was a gala gown kinda event, but this veers into spotlight-stealing territory.
I feel like these African-inspired, earthy looks are all carefully planned to promote her upcoming appearance in ‘Lion King Remake,’ or perhaps this was another option for the The Wearable Art Gala 2019.
What do you think?
