Beyonce Knowles Wore Five Custom Balmain Looks During Her Coachella Performance

You could easily say that Beyonce—and Balmain—shut down Coachella on Saturday night (April 15) during her 26-song set that included a Destiny’s Child reunion. She donned five different looks from designer Olivier Rousteing—all custom—and it’s safe to say that her affinity for bodysuits lives on in this unprecedented moment for the California desert.

Leave it to Queen Bey to make a yellow ‘BK’ initials hoodie and denim micro-shorts a lesson in glam standards with her crimped locks and custom Christian Louboutin white patent leather boots with holographic fringe. In case you were wondering, yes, that’s a marching band behind her to go with the throwback, collegiate theme.

This Egyptian goddess-inspired, intricately embellished cape and glinting bodysuit had ‘queen’ written all over it—with the patterned motifs, earrings, and headpiece only adding to the dramatic statement.

A holographic edge—and those crimped waves—came into play with this sleek black bodysuit that skimped no shortage of allure in the garters and matching, thigh-high boots. The hot-to-trot was made for the stage, and the consistency of the hologram, patent effect made for such a seamless, sexy-glam factor.

During her performance with husband Jay Z, she kept the garter and boots theme going, but changed to an exploded mesh top emblazoned with a 2018 Beyonce crest that featured a bee, raised fist, panther, and Egyptian goddess for a quartet of power symbols.

As for that Destiny’s Child reunion, well, only camouflage would do in homage to the former girl group’s earlier years. Bey’s dazzling sequin bodysuit came equipped with matching over-the-knee boots, with her two girls likewise bringing their own style attitudes to the camo print. I love how the pouf sleeve added a feminine counterpoint to the fiercer mood here.

Loved all of these on her, and LLOOVVEE Beyonce (who IS a goddess!), BUT the camouflage look did not hold up in the performance! She spent the last like 10 minutes of the show adjusting the top of the camouflage bodysuit to keep from falling out of it, and the top of the boots fell down too! I wonder if there had been a different set of outfits for the trio and these were last minute swap ins?

26 songs!! And dancing throughout. One of the hardest working superstars in the business. Have never really been thrilled with the body suits but her performances are so commanding that she wins me over.

This woman was made for the stage. All the looks worked for the various themes of the performance.

Love them all. Her stage-outfits are always a million times better than her red carpet looks

Honestly, these were perfect for her performance. Very Beyonce.

Her performance was one of the best I’ve seen in a while, loved all the looks and they were well suited. I loved the last look although it almost caused a wardrobe malfunction for her.

I love the first one. Her performance was really amazing.

I’m over Beyonce comparing herself to Queens and Goddesses..it’s gross. So apart from the Queen Nerrfiti costume, these are very good. I especially love the first and third look. Balmain is a great fit for Beyonce.

well she IS a modern goddess haha 😉

only to you and the Beyhive. She’s the world’s most famous entertainer, nothing divine about her at all.

        • Thea April 16, 2018 at 1:39 pm #

World’s most famous entertainer = Queen of entertainers or Goddess of entertainment

It is also to assert the idea that black women can be queens.

All women are Queens, black women included. I will give Beyoncé her due as an entertainer and singer. But she’ll never be a goddess to me and her pretension in all things is what VG is referring to. It is possible to be the best at what you do and project humility. There are many other celebrities who have mastered that. It’s clear by now that she completely buys into her own hype and that’s tiresome for those of us who don’t count ourselves part of the “Beyhive”.

These are all perfect performance looks and very much in Beyonce’s wheelhouse. My favorites are the Destiny’s Child look (enjoying all three looks) and the third one. I would have loved to have seen the boots in the first look in motion.

To be honest, none of these are wowing me (except for maybe the boots in the first one) but she definitely kept it interesting and these are perfect for performances. I also love the sketches, they’re so fun.

    Very good performance!
It weird to see how much in control her stages outfits are compared to her IG or RC ones that are sometimes very messy.

I love the first outfit because it’s a refreshing change from her bodysuits.
While i understand how practical bodysuits are, i wish she wore pants or dresses more.

The band and dancers outfits were on point! Olivier is better at doing costumes rather than fashion.

All pretty amazing performance looks. Very event appropriate and very Beyonce.
