Robin Wright In Saint Laurent – ‘Ismael’s Ghosts’ Cannes Film Festival Premiere

Robin Wright turned on the glitz for the opening ceremony and premiere of ‘Ismael’s Ghosts (Les Fantomes d’Ismael)’ at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday (May 17).

In a sea of long, dreamy confections, a short dress like this Saint Laurent Fall 2017 crystal-embellished design is bound to stand out—for better or worse.

In this case, the ‘80s-inspired, bold shoulder-frock just seemed out of place with its loose draping and slouchy sleeves.

The lacklustre black pumps didn’t do anything to dress up the effort either.

Great as a rocker-chic look for a snazzy little after party, perhaps. But I would have wished for more at the Cannes opening ceremony.

Chopard High Jewellery Collection completed the look.

Robin doesn’t do the red carpet thing and rarely shows up even for her own events. She’s not a fashion victim nor a starlet looking for attention. She dressed accordingly to the occasion: it wasn’t “her night”. She was there because she’s premiering a short film as a director later during the festival, she has been a juror in the past so probably has a lot of connections and was invited to the opening and also two of her close friends (Charlotte Gainsbourg and Marion Cotillard) were premiering their film in the opening night. So probably she was there because she was asked to by the organization and to support her friends. Considering this context and adding that she’s a reclusive serious actress who usually doesn’t give a sh*t about attention and red carpets, her dress was just perfect.

Maybe she just wanted to experiment. But Cannes red carpet is the wrong place and occasion for such experimental fashion.

This is so so sad. Its a dress for an evening out to dinner or minor event not Cannes. And the styling is very snoozy.

I could ALMOST give the loose fitting dress a pass, but the styling is so lacklustre and it’s opening night of Cannes- smh

Underdressed and beyond lackluster for the opening.

        Exactly.

This is for a vernissage or a night of drinks with friends at high end disco, not red carpet.

    NOT CANNES red carpet

I don’t like this at all.

This is not a nice look. Even if it wasn’t Cannes, this dress is unflattering on her.

    neither flattering nor glamorous.

I can get behind a cool, edgy look at Cannes if it’s done well. This one is just sloppy.

A loosely fitting mini dress with too long sleeves and the most uninspired black pumps? Definitely wrong for the event. If it was just the dress, but the styling… I can’t.

This is a great dress but definitely NOT for opening night at Cannes.

I think I would have liked this (maybe not for this occasion), but the fit seems off. I know it is supposed to be slouchy but it seems to swallow Robin.
