Cate Blanchett In Giambattista Valli Couture - IWC Gala Dinner

Cate Blanchett was back on the red carpet for the exclusive IWC Gala Dinner, ‘Timeless Portofino’, hosted by IWC CEO Georges Kern during the Zurich Film Festival (ZFF) on Saturday (September 27) in Zurich, Switzerland.

While I wasn’t a fan of the green Dior Couture coatdress, this Giambattista Valli Fall 2014 Couture look is everything and just a little bit more.

Some have said that Cate appears to be ‘phoning it in’ and not paying too much attention of late, I would say that this look is perfection personified.

Graceful and elegant with no need to deviate too far from the runway styling, I’m stunned at how a simple white shirt and garden-print mermaid skirt can leave me breathless.

The look was, of course, styled with an IWC timepiece.

That (awful imo) green Dior featured earlier this week didn’t seem even to fit properly. Here, she is wearing something that both fits and flatters. At last.

not liking the styling of the shirt… kind of reminds me of pyjamas

Love it on Cate, hated it buttoned up on the runway.

+1 I had the same flashback to Tilda (though I think it was Jil Sander).

  5. Guest May 5, 2019 at 8:13 pm #

This reminds me of Tilda Swinton’s similar (and equally effortless) Celine combo at the… Golden Globes? a couple of years ago – which can only be a good thing!

Best dressed of the week, unless Cate manages to outdo herself between this and Friday.

She looks wonderful, her best looks in ages Like something from a Katherine Hepburn movie. I’m sure she could have pulled off the buttoned up blouse too.

    BDOTY!

  8. Guest May 5, 2019 at 8:13 pm #

Gorgeous but the shirt needed to be more fitted for a flawless look.

  9. Guest May 5, 2019 at 8:13 pm #

The cut/size of the shirt doesn’t work for me, the look needed something very smartly fitted. It’s the only change I’d make, but frankly a rather significant one.

BDOTW contender, for sure! She looks amazing!

  11. Guest May 5, 2019 at 8:13 pm #

    Truly sublime.

After a couple of looks over the weekend that unfortunately stumbled in terms of execution, this one comes together perfectly. I love that the shirt is slightly larger and more relaxed than the runway version – it’s a perfect masculine counterpoint to the femininity and structure of the skirt. Stunning.

    BDOTW without a doubt.

WOW… I am speachless…So beautiful. She looks great!

  13. Guest May 5, 2019 at 8:13 pm #

Wish the lighting was better on the red carpet.

She looks stunning none the less.

So perfect! I’ve been slightly worried with her last few looks because they’ve been so underwhelming but this just screams “I’m back!”.
It’s classic Cate and it’s gorgeous!

Nice look, especially the skirt. Don’t like this oversized shirt in the name of “relaxed”.

    Very Sharon Stone

  17. Guest May 5, 2019 at 8:13 pm #

I like the look but Carolina Herrera has been doing the combo ball skirt/simple white shirt since forever. I am a bit disenchanted.

  18. Guest May 5, 2019 at 8:13 pm #

It’s a nice look, but it somehow doesn’t wow me. I would like to see a more modern silhouette on her for a change.

  19. Guest May 5, 2019 at 8:13 pm #

Perfection. BDOTW worthy. She looks so statuesque.

  20. Guest May 5, 2019 at 8:13 pm #

I am not wowed but she does look lovely.

I’ve loved the men’s shirt/evening skirt combination ever since Sharon Stone did it at the Oscars, and it works perfectly here on Cate. Elegant, elongated and chic.

Positively divine. I wasn’t a fan of her other two looks but this is classic Cate at her best.

    Flawless!

    BDOTW for sure

  37. Nat39 September 30, 2014 at 3:13 pm #

Love the ease she is wearing this look with. Simple and effortless yet breath-taking. After a couple of disappointments lately, this is a strong BDOTW contender. J’adore.

  38. Phoenix September 30, 2014 at 3:04 pm #

She looks back on her A game here. This is gorgeous. No doubt it will be on the bdotw list. This is def more her style.

  39. marie September 30, 2014 at 2:56 pm #

I think she looks flawless, there is not a thing I would change and it also seems fresh and original too me. How many could make a loose shirt and a flower printed skirt look so glamorous?

  40. Ariadne September 30, 2014 at 2:05 pm #

I love her. She’s perfection personified.
