Cate Blanchett elegantly descended on the 2014 BAFTAs, hosted Sunday (February 16) at The Royal Opera House in London, England.
The ‘Blue Jasmine’ star and Leading Actress nominee stunned in a sleek, jet-black Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2014 short-sleeve column gown, emblazoned with an exploded, silver floral print at the sides.
Injecting a touch of quirk into the look was a silver Chopard statement necklace, featuring a cluster of branches and birds.
A loosely swept-back updo and fresh, barely-there makeup ensured that this moody-chic entrance stayed on the good side of the drama club. Do you agree?

Elegant ,classy ,gorgeous (right dress for the right person!!!I love it
Her necklace is the standout of the look. I love it.
I really hope she is saving the best for last, cause other than the golden globes she has been looking soo “okay” which is rather frustrating cause she can do better.
I think this is what defines her style. She doesn’t need to follow a certain trend or a certain code. That’s for others. Where her world is concerned, she reigns supreme and matches her position infinite times by doling out looks that speak to you. This is once again, elegant and stylish. That floral design had me at hello! Gorgeous and regal!
Very pretty. I would have wish something more edgy, but sometimes simple elegance it’s all that it takes to look like a million dollars.
Very nice but I think it might be a little tight.
I wonder if she chose this rather sombre simple gown as she is still dealing with the loss of Philip Seymour Hoffman, to whom she dedicated her award? She seemed very moved when she came off stage and maybe she didn’t feel right wearing something glitzy and veered towards this. I do like it and her necklace was stunning.
This is gorgeous and really shows Cate’s style to me. This is a dress that would look good to great on most actresses but on Cate, it looks amazing. From her styling choices to her presence, she is wonderful at elevating a pretty dress into a Look and that shows here.
Best dressed of the night! It is not over the top but beautiful nonetheless. I just hope she does not play it safe on Oscar night and goes for something unexpected and iconic.
The necklace is wonderful, love the nod to the name of the movie. Tired of the blush-colored confectionary she’s been wearing so I quite like this.
She looks uber chic and so confident in this. Also her make up is flawless.
Now this is something else. While it isn’t as fashion forward like all the others things she uses to wear, this such an interesting dress. Those silver appliques make the dress.
The dress is not very noteworhty but she has elevate it by pairing it with that necklace that is a nice contrast to the simplicity from the gown. My favorite of the night, what a queen.
That necklace is everything, swoon.
For me she looked the best in an overall dissapointing red carpet. Lovely
Fabolous all way around! Sleek, sophisticated and edgy.
It is something about the dress that is really beautiful that makes it special. Maybe how she is wearing it but I like it a lot. All her others looks have been much more dramatic and memorable but I quite understand why she choose this.
The necklace is a great addition, a perfect way to spice up her simplified demure version of the top. Nice sleek silhouette, she looks elegant, but I can’t help but feel underwhelmed. She can do more than this.
I really don’t care for the modified version, although I’m highly intrigued by the dress in the look book. It’s too tight on Cate, I don’t particularly care for the New Agey necklace, and don’t think she’s already old enough to be in need for this neckline.
I’m slightly disappointed, but she looks O.K.
It’s a nice look but nothing memorable. Actually a bit lackluster.
I’m loving this dress. It is simple (from what she usually wears) but the embroidery takes this to the next level. In motion it looked stunning. It is funnt that this is my favorite from the evening though it is very restrained, but somehow it is a delight to watch.
lovee
I expected so much from her during awards season… This is just OK.
Lovely dress and that necklace is too die for, but am I the only one who thinks it’s a bit too tight?
* to die for
I also thought that, but on other photos you can see that is it tailored to perfection and not very tight.
She can do way better
Agree completely. Cate is my #1 style icon, and this look is a huge let-down for me. It’s so safe that it wouldn’t even be amazing looking on anyone else either. It’s not ugly but it’s just so boring.
Looove the necklace ! She looks fabulous as always.
This, the necklace is exquisite
Ditto!
All the jewels she has choose this season have being majestic.
