Lupita Nyong’o In Balmain – ‘Black Panther’ London Premiere

Lupita Nyong’o joined Florence Kasumba, Letitia Wright, Leona Lewis, and Danai Gurira on the black carpet for the ‘Black Panther’ London premiere on Thursday (February 8).

She set the bar so high at the world premiere with her regal Atelier Versace gown. But, rather than go head to head with that uniquely striking, colour-saturated look, she continued to have a moment with metallics in this Balmain gown that shimmered in silver embellishment.

As this was Balmain, the strong, sultry tone was duly noted in the plunge neckline and the high slit.

However, it was her styling that made the look a Lupita one, with a glam-bam one-two punch in her diamond De Beers jewels and bold beauty and hair.

    it is all over worked.

I love the styling neck-up. Don’t love the dress on Lupita. I think she looks better in colors or white shades, the metallics don’t flatter her as much.

Her Versace is still her best look of this promo tour. I think the dress is OK. I love everything neck up

Plunge and slit are not my favorites though I love Lupita and the dark sparkle/unusual nature of the dress (not just another strapless column). I don’t know about this particular hairstyle, but as always she is rocking it and makeup is on point.

It obviously doesn’t top the Versace, but I really love this one, too.

The makeup makes her look really old. That, the hair and earrings are to much. I would get rid of the dar eyeshadow and the earrings. It would be much better.

Love everything about it, one less standard smokey eye in the world is not a bad thing.

  10. Mimi February 9, 2018 at 12:40 #

This dress is so stunning!!! Wow! I even like the hair, but whoever did that eye makeup needs to be fired. Way to kill an awesome look.

  11. Cássia February 9, 2018 at 11:43 #

    Stunning as always!

  12. Amy February 9, 2018 at 10:37 #

great dress. However we need to tone down the eye makeup

  13. moonbeam February 9, 2018 at 08:55 #

I adore Lupita, ADORE HER! But I don’t like anything about this look. She looks her best when she keeps it simple with a bright, bold color. This look is overwrought, there’s too much going on.

  14. Monica February 9, 2018 at 08:35 #

All the ladies looked amazing at this premiere, but Lupita’s is my favorite look!

  15. Maria F. February 9, 2018 at 08:22 #

I have to agree as well. It looked a bit better on the pics where she was in motion, but she seems too short for this dress or they should have modified the skirt.

I adore the jewellery, but a big NO on the eye make up. With a face like that you do not have to go overboard.

    It’s OK, I don’t hate it but I don’t love it either.

  17. Eni February 9, 2018 at 07:38 #

    Ugh, no.

  18. Alina February 9, 2018 at 05:54 #

It will be hard to top that Atelier Versace look, but this one is not bad. The only thing that bothers me here is the eye makeup; she doesn’t need that much.

    • Stephanie February 9, 2018 at 08:59 #

i agree, the eye makeup went on like spackling a wall – way too heavy :/

  19. Pheephee February 9, 2018 at 05:25 #

No sorry. I cannot stand the hair and makeup. It looks almost too girlish with the dress. like a little girl playing dress up with moms clothes and makeup.
Nice dress. Not sure she needed that much slit….but the styling does it in anyways.

    • meme February 9, 2018 at 16:29 #

I agree. Change the hair and lose that slit and it would be much better.

  20. RebeccaZ February 9, 2018 at 05:20 #

She looks spectacular. What a treasure.

Nat39 I might have to agree with you, she doesn’t have the legs for it

    • Ms Rockets February 9, 2018 at 11:27 #

Why? Because they’re not “skinny?” Lupitas legs are lovely- toned, strong, beautiful skin. What’s the problem?

I don’t know that Nat39 was even criticising Lupita for showing her legs. They may have simply been stating that it’s not really her style “thing” to expose her legs like that.

      • brat February 9, 2018 at 16:09 #

No. Because they’re not sculpted and toned. They’re not her best feature. Nat would def not be the first person to say that. I’ve heard that since the beginning, high slits never look flattering on her. You don’t agree, that’s fine, it’s all a matter of opinion anyways.

        • meme February 9, 2018 at 16:28 #

I agree with you. Not everyone has legs for high slits. Everyone cannot look good in everything. Jeesh, people are so sensitive.

  22. brat February 9, 2018 at 05:04 #

Totally indifferent to the gown but I adore the styling. The best she’s looked in year. Hair, makeup and jewelry were perfect!

  23. Amanda F February 9, 2018 at 05:01 #

I do not like anything about this. The hair, high slit and expecially the make-up. I cannot get on board with any of it.

  24. Nat39 February 9, 2018 at 04:57 #

Lupita is not a high-slit girl for me, sorry.

    • JHH February 9, 2018 at 06:12 #

I was going to write literally the exact same time except I was also going to take exception to the excessive eye makeup.
