Cate Blanchett In Prada – 86th Academy Awards Nominees Luncheon

Cate Blanchett In Prada - 86th Academy Awards Nominees Luncheon

Cate Blanchett joined Sandra Bullock, Amy Adams and Lupita Nyong’o on the red carpet for the 86th Academy Awards Nominees Luncheon held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on Monday (February 10) in Beverly Hills, California.

The actress’ space age metallic silver Prada Fall 2013 asymmetrical, zipper accented dress was worn without the runway sweater and black velvet waistband for a much cleaner, elegant finish.

Only accessorizing with a Christian Louboutin ‘So Kate’ pumps, the actress swept her hair back into a chic bun.

I’m sure the decision to go silver instead of gold was a very deliberate one. No one wants to turn up to an Academy Awards function looking like the statue.

I dislike this dress a lot.

      Me too!

    • Jess2 February 12, 2014 at 09:51 #

+3, not a fan of the shoes either.

  2. from-chitown February 10, 2014 at 22:30 #

    Not my favorite.

  3. petra February 10, 2014 at 22:41 #

Not even Cate the Great can pull off a terrible Prada dress.

    • Jessica February 10, 2014 at 23:40 #

This was going to be my exact comment! I totally agree, this dress is awful

  4. shap_half February 10, 2014 at 22:42 #

She looks horrible. If she was gonna go edgy, she should have committed to it. This more elegant take completely misses the mark.

  5. Nat39 February 10, 2014 at 22:50 #

I don’t think that metallic silver is a very good choice for her complexion, warmer tones work better for her, and this is one uninspired foil dress anyway. Cate just looks bland, perhaps she could’ve at least added a cool (but nothing ott for the luncheon) belt to elevate it a bit.

  6. EmmaWoodhouse February 10, 2014 at 23:13 #

So awful on the model, but while the dress is far from great I think she looks elegant in it in a way few good. It looks sophisticated on her, though better from far away as the fabric is terribly cheap looking.

  7. Anne Gallagher February 10, 2014 at 23:23 #

Shiny! Actually, I think the silver lame washes her out.

  8. Lisa February 10, 2014 at 23:33 #

    Yuk!

  9. kane February 10, 2014 at 23:44 #

I don’t even mind the dress so much. It’s rather the non-styling that is really bothering me.

    • Kathy February 11, 2014 at 00:34 #

Exactly. The dress has so much potential, but Cate didn’t really take advantage of that.

    • dee February 11, 2014 at 02:02 #

I agree. Her shoes could have been better but I like the dress on her.

I like this – I am surprised by all these negative comments

    • Tina February 11, 2014 at 00:49 #

Me too. She looks lovely to me.

    • Martin February 11, 2014 at 01:04 #

Totally agree. I am really surprised by how much negativity this look is eliciting. It is not my favourite Cate look (by a long shot) but I think she looks great in the dress and that it is perfectly appropriate for the Academy Awards luncheon. Clean, pretty, simple. Kinda baffled by all the hate.

+1… I think she looks good in it!

      • msd February 11, 2014 at 05:58 #

+1 The only thing I’m not crazy about are the shoes.

    • Alice February 11, 2014 at 17:45 #

      +3 Cate looks stunning

      • Lisa February 11, 2014 at 21:03 #

        Agree, she looks beyond gorgeous

  11. Kathy February 11, 2014 at 00:33 #

I love this dress, but I don’t think Cate’s shoes are right for it at all. The high-tech, slightly futuristic feel of the silver fabric could have been underscored with some edgy sandals or accessories.

    • the ogre February 12, 2014 at 19:42 #

      Same thoughts!

  12. Tatiana February 11, 2014 at 00:43 #

I actually though she looked very nice. The dress is difficult to wear and she pulls it off quite nicely. The shoes are also gorgeous.

  13. Tina February 11, 2014 at 00:49 #

For me, she was the best dresses from this event(I mean everyone choose unfflatering and boring clothes, so it was not that hard). The dress fits her perfectly, her make up is stunning and I like that she keep it very simple.

  14. Marianne February 11, 2014 at 00:52 #

I adore this. I think she looks perfect.

  15. Lucrezia February 11, 2014 at 01:14 #

Gorgeous all the way around! I love when she wears metallic dresses (just like how she always did it circa 2006/2007

  16. Christine February 11, 2014 at 01:39 #

I really like this as well.

Happy to see her shoe game looking good.

  17. Valeria February 11, 2014 at 05:20 #

Don’t like the look-it’s meant to be oversized, futuristic and youthful, and Cate made it into a dated 80s lamé look. Maybe she needs to fully commit to wearing elegant, slightly matronly looks she shines so well in. I haven’t liked edgy Cate since she started her experiments. And why FC you never give her hard time for boring footwear?:)

  18. Markness February 11, 2014 at 12:49 #

I quite like it. It needs a belt though.

  19. from-chitown February 11, 2014 at 15:57 #

Nope – don’t like it at all. Even Cate Blanchett cannot salvage this Prada dress.

  20. Alice February 11, 2014 at 17:45 #

For me, almost all Prada dresses are horrible, but this for some reason looks amazing on her. I like the tailoring and I think the shoes look good with this. Also, I like how she is always trying new looks, you never know what she is going to wear next and that’s fun to watch.

  21. Camille February 11, 2014 at 18:15 #

Love the dress, hate the shoes.

  22. Joy February 11, 2014 at 19:11 #

I like this a lot. Not sure why, maybe it’s just Cate’s appeal. This simple dress accessorized with the perfect shoes is so chic. Not a lot of bells and whistles, besides the color/material of the dress but she wears is so well.

  23. Lisa February 11, 2014 at 21:02 #

Lovely look. She looks every bit the star.

  24. Janice February 11, 2014 at 21:08 #

I like this better than the runway one. She always looks in top form.

  25. Charlotte February 11, 2014 at 21:27 #

    Wow. Absolute perfection.

  26. Zhang Siying February 12, 2014 at 07:45 #

    She is very beautiful, perfect

  27. Peter February 12, 2014 at 20:17 #

With different shoes, this would have been amazing. Still, BDOTW for me. Hope she delivers at the BAFTAS and gives BDOTY moment.
