The singer, who serves as a Chanel ambassador, rarely steps outside the house’s orbit. In fact, it is difficult to recall another label she has embraced other than Chanel, which is why this appearance immediately stood out.

Rather than reaching for another Chanel look, Gracie opted for a vintage Balenciaga Spring/Summer 2003 fencing-inspired top, which carries all the eccentricity of Nicolas Ghesquière’s early-2000s Balenciaga, paired with white pleated trousers featuring a burgundy side stripe that imbued the look with a sporty feel.

The appeal of this outfit lies in how unaffected it feels. There is something refreshingly personal about it, as though Gracie pulled these pieces from her own wardrobe rather than arriving in a carefully assembled promotional look.

This also continues the growing fascination with fashion archives. We have seen celebrities increasingly reaching into collections from the late 1990s and early 2000s. It certainly made the Elle press tour especially interesting, but there is no overarching theme to be found here. The Balenciaga simply feels like a piece Gracie genuinely wanted to wear.

The Chanel jewellery and Chanel slingback ballet flats brought the look back to familiar territory.
