After dazzling in a white confection at the ‘Side Effects’ New York premiere, Rooney Mara was back to black for the film’s debut at the Berlinale Film Festivale in Germany today.
Our goth-glam girl returned to her dark side in a dress from Valentino’s Spring 2013 Couture collection.
But this was a sweet moment, too—at least for this edgy starlet.
The prim little frock, with its embroidered maze of ivy swirls, its riff on the pouf sleeve and that handkerchief hem, was elevated to a near-girly level. This look seemed mere steps away from a place in a mysterious and gothic secret garden.
The actress’s love of sheer styling continued here, although a nude lining precluded any real show of skin.
With no jewellery and only a basic black pump, this completely unembellished show of stylish austerity was finished with Rooney’s slick top knot, her flawless alabaster complexion and pretty-in-pink lippie.

Perfection.
Agree. A simple but elegant look. Her makeup is flawless. Seems to brighten up her face despite donning a black dress.
Her restraint always elevates her appearances on the RC into something special for me – love this!
It’s fine but I don’t love it, would’ve been nice if she’d carried a clutch.
Perfect from head to toe.
+1 love her style more and more with every outing
Bored. How long is she going to keep the severed slick hairstyle? Girl with the dragon tattoo part 2 is not filming yet.
Not liking the dress.
One of my absolute favorite looks from her–so clean, polished, and feminine. BDOTW worthy.
I normally cannot stand Rooney’s looks…..but I love this one. Granted, I’d change the shoes
This is slightly unrelatedly, but I’ve been holding a semi-grudge against Rooney ever since her Vogue interview in which she ranted about finding the fashion world annoying and uninteresting. If she is so uninterested, why is she the co-chair of the Met Gala this year?!? Why does she have 2 Vogue covers, among many others? It’s not as if she’s a victim…
Anyways, back to the outfit. Boring hair, boring pumps. Love the dress, but it could have been styled to look a lot more stunning than this and it wasn’t. This look desperately needed a pop of color, via colorful eye makeup (Rooney’s not the type to be into that, though, I’m guessing), pretty sandals, earrings, or a bright clutch.
This!
Once again I like Rooney’s ensemble. I do wish her stylist would put her in something other than black or white whilst she’s not promoting Millennium series trilogy.
Lovely. Although I’m still under the influence of her amazing Balenciaga outfit.
I love this look. I would’ve preferred a pair of sandals, but the pumps actually go well with this look.
head-to-toe perfection this is!
FC, “stylish austerity”, is the perfect way to describe it so I don’t think anyone need say anything more on this.
I’m happy to see black done differently after such a long time…sigh!
I love Rooney Mara, she just has that distinct style that seems to be very rare in Hollywood stars these days (maybe in exception of Solange Knowles and Rihanna). Rooney always looks great.
This is perfect like her previous look. She always has this polished and smart aura.
However, I just wish once she opens her hair, smiles and dress in something colorful
I love this lady’s unique sense of style.
Not crazy about the sleeves, but I do like it overall.
Like everything but the hairdo.
Lovely. When she gets it right it is simple and stunning, and here she looks beautiful.
No. Just no.
