No longer in her older sister’s shadow, Solange Knowles took the fashion world by storm in 2012.
Even American Vogue noted her sartorial style choices as she was firmly placed on their best dressed list for 2012, joining the likes of Emma Stone, Rooney Mara, Zoe Saldana and LeeLee Sobieski.
We loved her for her ‘stepping outside the box’ style choices, which ranged from multiple prints, African-inspired pieces, luxe gowns, colour-blocking, her love for all things yellow and of course her ‘fro.
She also introduced us to many underground designers such as Esteban Cortazar, Boxing Kitten, Rubin Singer, Flaminia Saccucci and Maki Oh which not only cemented her trend setting status, but also gave a much needed spotlight to these talented up-and-coming designers.
The one thing we could predict when it came to Solange’s style, is that she would never be predictable.

It’s always something new and interesting with her, and I love that. She’s not afraid of rocking bright colors or prints. Also, her makeup (lip colour mostly) is always flawless.

None of her looks got recognized on BDOTY list unfortunately. (As I already wrote), I’d rather see her breathtaking white Rubin Singer gown with long draping over the shoulders instead of Gwyneth’s Oscars look.

A new found love for Solange, this is well deserved! I found that even if we don’t like Solange’s looks, we give her credit because she is never boring, always new and fresh and taking fashion forward risks. Good on her!!

Noone does prints and color like Solange. She’s a total fashionista. It seems like her style is rubbing of on her big sister too.
I admire her daring aesthetic but I don’t really click with her style. The boldness doesn’t really work for me.
