It was exciting to have Marchesa back on my fashion week schedule again just before the Oscars.
The Marchesa Fall 2012 presentation was held at the Plaza Hotel in New York City with major stylists in the front row ready to pluck Oscar-worthy gowns right off the runway.
No cat-fights were needed as there were many choices to be had.
The ethereal collection in shades of nude, cream, ivory, blue and red was inspired by William-Adolphe Bouguerau’s 1879 portrait painting, ‘A Soul Brought to Heaven’.
Models floated as if on clouds down the runway, wearing decadent fitted and flared gowns and ball gowns with floral embroidered bodices, gold bouillon embroidery and feather-like tulle skirts.
I love the hand-wrapped lame gold gown which stood out in a room of fantasy tulle ball gowns.
We also saw cocktail dresses in lace and with laser-cut leather.
Front Row: Olivia Palermo, Petra Nemcova, Bar Refaeli, Stacy Keibler, Adeperi Oduye, Jenna Dewan Tatum and Taylor Momsen
Who I See Wearing This Collection: Amber Heard, Viola Davis, Anne Hathaway, Kerry Washington, Camilla Belle, Diane Kruger, Olivia Wilde, Heidi Klum, Elle Fanning and many more

Not a Marchesa fan. Overworked, overdone, and over it.
i think is te aim, right? Even the label name is over over, but the comercial stuff is not that much bling bling, very normal IMO
I love the dress you chose for Amber. Actually, I think it’s the only dress I like from this collection.
I think Beyonce would look good in it too.
It’s the only dress I like too.
I could see Halle Berry wearing the Metallic one shoulder (off shoulder) to the Oscars this year.
I was about to write the exact same thing, Halle would look outstanding in the gold lamé dress!
I think they should go back to doing presentations because it seems like they can do more with those than a runway show. This is much better than their spring collection, but Im still not wowed.
I do love that white mini.
I thoght it was valentino at the first sight.
hahaha, yeah, looks like
Marchesa has become so overwrought it’s just tired now. That gold lame dress was like a breath of fresh air amidst a sea of overworked lace and princess gowns.
I hated it, it’s such a copycat… They copied the gold dress from vivienne westwood, many from alexander mcqueen and Givenchy…
Clearly they need you, becuase their last runway show was the only one I have ever really disliked from them!
I hope that at least one of the dresses gets an oscar outing.
Lol…that is so funny
Also, I only jsut noticed this, but why the hell was Taylor Momsen there, let alone invited?
I thought she was too edgy for mainstream fashion brands like Marchesa?
What was she like in real life?
I thought it strange too
Does anybody else feel a strong McQueen vibe?
That is the first thing I thought of when looking at the red gown…it’s like a cross between McQueen and the bottom of the dress looks like the green Oscar De La Renta dress Nicki Minaj wore a few months ago.
Yup!
Yes, especially the one FC picked for Anne Hathaway. It looks like McQueen last season.
Also, the Elle Fanning one feels very Marc Jacobs/Louis Vuitton to me.
I also really like look #13 for
The “Amber Heard” dress is gorgeous, but I must say that even if I’m a big fan of Marchesa, some dresses are a bit a deja vu.
I totally agree with the “overwrought, overdesigned” sentiment that is running through this thread. And in practice, the actresses who wear these things look like they are overstyled and over-trying. In summation, I’m over Marchesa right now.
Wouldn’t you just die if it turns out Angelina Jolie wears the dress chosen for Amber? OMG, DIE!!!
Look 11, 17 or 26 for the Oscars please.. those are amazing
Yay! So much of it is crazy but it is so fun
Ewww the second fringed silver grey one appears to be exposing the models rib cage. Not a pleasant design. And doesn’t the last blue and white gown remind u of Givenchy?
I think I will die if Amber wears that dress!
The problem always with Marchesa is editing. Their collections always feel so random — also apparent in this collection, which is better than last season’s but still underwhelming overall. For example, the gold “Amber Heard” dress (the best one in this collection) has nothing in common with the “Elle Fanning” dress. And I wince every time on the Project Runway All-Stars when Georgina Chapman lectures the designers about the importance of editing — take your own advice!
Am I the only one who thinks that the dress FC has chosen for Anne Hathaway is almost exactly the same like Look #47 from the Monique Lhuillier Fall 2012 collection?
OMG, totally yes! How is that possible? (Both McQueenish, imo)
hmm this collection looks lovely!
While I think the gold is too shiny, how I love the draping of the lame gown. So so so pretty!! We will see this on the red carpet, for suuuuuure!
not a fan.
I love the Anne Hathaway and the 1st dress in the top row.. This collection does not look overdone to me
I dislike most of these dresses. They look too bland for me.
ick! overwork, and the detailing is absolutely horrendous in a sense that the it appears to me so rough so complex and a mismatch between the designs of McQueen, a dior and zuhair murad…marchesa should absolutely must be aware of the fact on where to stop in order to achieve the ‘quintessential embodiment’ of that ‘wearable art’ thing they are expounding, i am sick to deaththeir excessive ba
I’d die if Elle Fanning wore that beige and gold short dress in the first picture!
