Sarah Paulson Is Having a Moment with Statement Earrings

Unless it’s a major event, such as an awards ceremony, the Met Gala or a European film festival, statement earrings seem to have been replaced by more minimalist designs on the red carpet.

But in October, Sarah Paulson appears to have single-handedly revived the statement earring, delivering four very different pairs, from sculptural gold designs and oversized hoops to floral creations and dramatic black-and-gold drop earrings. And while her red carpet wardrobe has always been interesting, it’s her jewellery that has consistently caught my attention lately.

What I particularly love is the variety. There’s no single style she’s sticking to, and each pair has its own personality. Even when her outfit was already covered in embellishments, as we saw at the Academy Museum Gala, she wasn’t about to settle for discreet jewellery. And that’s exactly what I’ve been missing on the red carpet: accessories that are just as interesting as the clothes themselves.

Considering how often we see celebrities wearing barely noticeable diamond studs, I’m enjoying this return to statement earrings, no matter how fleeting it may be.

With Karla Welch behind Sarah’s recent looks, I can’t help wondering whether we’re about to see more statement earrings on the red carpet. After all, Michelle Monaghan and Hannah Einbinder were also sporting oversized designs at the recent WWD Honors.

Statement earrings have always been one of my favourite accessories, and Sarah is giving me plenty to appreciate right now.
