Mckenna Grace Is the Girl on Fire at ‘The Hunger Games’ Berlin Premiere

Mckenna Grace took her The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping press tour to Berlin, where she delivered her most recognisable tribute to the franchise yet.

Wearing a custom Cong Tri gown, the actress channelled Katniss Everdeen’s iconic Girl on Fire look from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, right down to the curls and braided hairstyle.

The gown featured a fiery red, orange and black sequinned bodice, with a pleated skirt that appeared to burst into flames as Mckenna lifted the fabric into the air. It’s certainly one way to make an entrance, and I love that she committed to recreating the moment with her pose.

Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a flame-inspired gown on a Hunger Games red carpet. Rachel Zegler wore an Alexander McQueen gown to The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes Berlin premiere back in 2023, so there is already a precedent for this particular tribute.

I can already hear some of you saying that this is too literal, especially coming just days after Halloween, when we’ve had our fill of celebrities dressing as other characters.

And I understand that argument. Between the gown, the hairstyle and the pose, there isn’t much left to interpretation.

But I think this works precisely because Mckenna isn’t pretending this is anything other than a tribute to one of the franchise’s most memorable fashion moments. It’s a reference fans will recognise immediately, and Berlin seems to have become the place for the Girl on Fire to make her return.

The question is whether you appreciate the commitment to the reference or would have preferred Mckenna to offer her own interpretation of the Girl on Fire.
