There’s History Behind RosalĂa’s Schiaparelli Look

RosalĂa attended the 2026 WSJ. Magazine Innovator Awards, held at The Museum of Modern Art in New York, continuing her run of interesting red carpet fashion choices.

The Spanish singer opted for a Schiaparelli Spring 2027 look, pairing an archive-inspired jacket with an ivory satin maxi skirt.

The Elsa jacket was the highlight for me, particularly the way the satin bows create the illusion of holding it together. This detail has an interesting connection to Elsa Schiaparelli’s fashion history. In 1927, the designer introduced her famous trompe-l’Ĺ“il bow sweater, which used an optical illusion to make a knitted bow appear three-dimensional.

Nearly a century later, Daniel Roseberry revisits the house’s fascination with trompe-l’Ĺ“il, with asymmetric cut-outs revealing flashes of skin that give the historical reference a modern twist.

I also love how the fluid ivory satin skirt contrasts with the jacket’s more structured silhouette. The simplicity of the skirt was the perfect choice to complement such an intricate piece.
