Mckenna Grace Channels Lucy Gray Baird in Archival Gucci
Following the London premiere of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, Mckenna Grace attended the film’s photocall, where her Hunger Games method dressing continued.

This time, the actress channelled Rachel Zegler’s Lucy Gray Baird from The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes in an archival Gucci Fall 2016 gown by Alessandro Michele.

And the references couldn’t be more fitting.

Between the colourful birds embroidered across the bodice, the snake motifs and the cascading green-to-pink ruffles, this dress connects both films beautifully. The birds and snakes reference The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, while the tiered skirt recalls the colourful dress Lucy Gray wore during her performances. The nature-inspired embroidery also feels particularly relevant to Sunrise on the Reaping, with its own connections to the natural world and the mockingjay symbolism that runs throughout the franchise.

The Hunger Games fashion references just keep coming, and I’m loving how much thought has gone into Mckenna’s wardrobe for this tour.
What makes this even more interesting is the Elle Fanning connection.
I was convinced that Mckenna’s co-star had worn this exact Gucci gown on the red carpet, but I was actually remembering the bird-embroidered Gucci Spring 2016 dress Elle wore to the 2015 Trumbo LA premiere.

After a little more digging, I discovered that Elle had indeed worn Mckenna’s Fall 2016 gown, just not on the red carpet. She wore it for a 2016 W Magazine editorial.
So, not only has Mckenna continued the film’s fashion references, but there’s also an unexpected connection to her co-star’s fashion history.
