Noémie Merlant Continues Her Minimalist Era in Louis Vuitton

Noémie Merlant attended the Les Misérables photocall held at the Palais des Congrès in Paris on Monday, continuing the minimalist approach to red carpet dressing that has defined her recent appearances.

Ever since her appearance at the 2025 Venice Film Festival, the French actress has been favouring a more understated aesthetic. That sculptural yellow gown now feels like a distant memory, but one thing I have learned over the years is that black tends to be the default on Parisian red carpets. Perhaps it is the city’s longstanding association with understated chic, or simply a preference for letting cut and craftsmanship do the talking.

That was certainly the case with Noémie’s Louis Vuitton fitted black dress, which was beautifully constructed, with vertical seams defining the silhouette and jewelled buttons along one side adding just enough interest to distinguish it from another classic black dress.

I suspect some will question the length and wonder whether a shorter hemline would have been more flattering. I’m on the fence. A few inches off might have improved the proportions, particularly with the pumps, but I also appreciate the longer, streamlined silhouette.

Black satin Louis Vuitton pumps completed the look, alongside a Louis Vuitton High Jewellery Idylle Blossom ring featuring an LV Monogram Star-cut diamond, and white gold and diamond earrings that complemented the jewelled buttons beautifully.
