Jack O’Connell’s Denim Dilemma at the ‘Ink’ London Premiere

Jack O’Connell attended the Ink premiere during the BFI London Film Festival at the Royal Festival Hall on Monday, wearing a look that had plenty of potential but didn’t quite work for me.

The British actor was front row at the Dior Spring 2027 show, and it appears look 15 caught his eye.

Jack has been having more fun with red carpet dressing, and this Dior ensemble, featuring a distressed denim jacket, an embroidered ivory shirt and classic black trousers, certainly fits that direction. However, I’m not convinced he’s pulling it off.

What worked so well on the runway was the black sequinned trompe-l’Å“il tie, which created a visual connection between the embellished shirt and the black trousers. It gave the look a sense of cohesion despite the contrasting textures.

Jack’s ivory version loses that connection, while the addition of the black fringed scarf introduces another element that feels disconnected from the rest of the outfit. I also feel that the length of the denim jacket makes the overall look feel heavy on him.

I appreciate that Jack is willing to experiment, and he certainly has the swagger for something less conventional, but this particular combination isn’t convincing me.

I can picture Lewis Hamilton, Maluma, Bad Bunny or a pre-2025 Timothée Chalamet making this work. They have a history of embracing unconventional menswear and making even the trickiest styling choices feel natural.

On Jack, however, the individual pieces are more interesting than the finished look.
