Cynthia Erivo’s Return to Vibrant Colour Is Worth Celebrating

Cynthia Erivo attended the Prima Facie premiere at the Royal Festival Hall during the 2026 BFI London Film Festival this evening.

As I said earlier today, this is turning into quite the Prada fashion festival. Like Sophie Okonedo, Cynthia opted for yellow, but her silk satin gown has held up considerably better than Sophie’s silk crêpe satin look. Either that, or Cynthia had a steamer on standby.

The canary-yellow bias-cut Prada gown is a beautiful choice, with the satin falling fluidly over her figure before extending into a sweeping train.

I’m particularly happy to see Cynthia embracing bold colour again after two years dominated by black and green. That’s not to diminish her Wicked press tours, which were great fun, but seeing her in such a vibrant shade feels like a welcome change of pace.

Black and yellow is a combination I always enjoy, particularly when the contrast is this striking. The black geometric grosgrain bows at the shoulders break up the expanse of yellow, giving the classic silhouette a more contemporary feel. It’s a small detail that makes a significant difference.

And yes, I can already hear you pointing out those darts. The stitching looks poorly executed, which is disappointing for a custom Prada gown. But after some of the creasing we’ve seen at this festival, I’m willing to overlook that flaw and appreciate how beautifully the satin has held up.

A selection of MARLI New York jewellery completed her look.
