Jennie Channels Kate Moss’ 1993 Calvin Klein Look at Summer Sonic
Jennie performed at the Summer Sonic Festival, one of Japan’s premier annual music festivals, in Tokyo, where she exclusively wore custom Calvin Klein Collection.

Both looks were unmistakably Calvin Klein, but what made them particularly interesting was the way the house revisited its own history while tapping into two fashion conversations that continue to dominate celebrity dressing: archival references and upcycling.
Kate Moss, Revisited
For her first look, Jennie wore a custom Calvin Klein Collection outfit inspired by a Spring-Summer 1993 runway look worn by Kate Moss.
Kate’s influence on fashion remains unmatched, so returning to one of her early Calvin Klein runway moments feels especially fitting for Jennie. The original look captures the stripped-back denim-and-underwear aesthetic that became synonymous with the brand in the ’90s, and more than three decades later, Jennie is showing just how relevant it can still feel.

Jennie’s version retained the original look’s oversized backwards jeans (which will always make me think of hip-hop duo Kris Kross), pairing them with a baggy denim waistcoat worn over white and black Calvin Klein Collection underwear, an embroidered beret and a leather belt featuring an archival Calvin Klein Jeans buckle.

If you’re one for nostalgia, there’s a lot to love about this reinterpretation, as it takes those instantly recognisable Calvin Klein codes and reworks them for Jennie and the stage.
The beret might seem like an unexpected addition, but it keeps the look close to the original styling, while the layers of necklaces give Jennie’s version its own identity.

Upcycling Takes Centre Stage
For her second look, Jennie wore a custom Calvin Klein Collection mini dress crafted from upcycled Calvin Klein denim waistbands, layered over a white Calvin Klein Collection bra and finished with an archival leather belt.
This was such a clever use of one of the most recognisable parts of a pair of jeans. Instead of simply patchworking different pieces of denim together, the repeated waistbands become the entire construction of the dress, with the seams, belt loops and varying washes creating the pattern.
It also reminded me of the Hodakova leather dress Emma Corrin wore, which was constructed from recycled belts. Both looks take an everyday component we instantly recognise and completely change its purpose.
Between the Kate Moss reference, archival hardware and upcycled denim, Jennie’s Summer Sonic wardrobe revisited Calvin Klein’s past while putting her own spin on it. The first look is classic Calvin Klein through a Jennie lens, but the waistband minidress is the one I find most interesting. There’s something particularly satisfying about seeing something so familiar turned into something entirely new.
