Catherine, Princess of Wales Wore McQueen On St. Patrick’s Day
Catherine, Princess of Wales attended the St Patrick’s Day parade ahead of the state visit from President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu of Nigeria.

A green coat for St Patrick’s Day, hardly a surprise at this point, but given her ceremonial role as Colonel of the Irish Guards, where she presents shamrocks to officers and guardsmen as part of a long-standing regimental tradition, it has effectively become her uniform. Since taking on the role in 2012, the rotation of green coats has been consistent, some new, others familiar. This Alexander McQueen coat may have been making its St Patrick’s Day debut, but it wasn’t new to us, having been worn on Christmas Day 2024.

What made this appearance feel different was the styling. The Gina Foster Meribel velour-felt beret and Ralph Lauren boots remained, but the hair swept up, the addition of the belt, and the neatly tucked black scarf gave the look a sharper finish. It felt more formal and more aligned with the tone of the engagement.

The accessories followed suit. The shamrock pinned to her coat, the Asprey emerald and diamond halo earrings, and the Irish Guards’ regimental brooch grounded the look in tradition.

Then there was the braided updo. Beyond keeping the look polished, it nodded to Irish heritage and Celtic folklore, where intricate plaits have long been part of cultural identity. It’s a subtle detail, but one that shows Catherine’s looks are always carefully considered.
