Chappell Roan Wore Mugler & Rodarte To The 2026 Grammy Awards
Chappell Roan was a guest presenter at the 2026 Grammys on Sunday, and it is fair to say she shocked a lot of people.

Deep Red, New Territory
We have come to celebrate her campy, theatrical, unapologetically queer aesthetic, drag inspired silhouettes, corsets, glitter, bold makeup, and a love of vintage fantasy. Even when the eccentricity leans DIY, she has always approached the red carpet with a sense of joy, often paying homage to those who paved the way before her. On this occasion, however, playfulness was replaced by provocation.

She wore a custom Mugler deep garnet draped piercing georgette négligée dress with a matching cape, inspired by Manfred Thierry Mugler’s Spring Summer 1998 Jeu de Paume Haute Couture collection and echoed again by Miguel Castro Freitas for Mugler’s Spring 2026 collection.

This may be controversial, but I do not hate it. The illusion panel does exactly what it is meant to do, the colour story is rich, and the softer than usual makeup allows everything to sit in harmony. The only element not quite landing for me is the footwear. While she did wear a statement necklace, the bodysuit itself already fulfils that role.

A Familiar Fantasy Recast
While presenting on stage, many of you likely had a Leonardo DiCaprio meme moment, pointing at the screen as Chappell appeared in this Rodarte Fall 2007 ethereal gown. It is one of Keira Knightley’s most recognisable red carpet looks, worn to the London premiere of Atonement in 2007.

The gown carries a clear Greek goddess energy, marking yet another unexpected turn in Chappell’s style narrative. We may all have had a fixed idea of where her fashion story was headed, but here, on the world stage, it shifted right before our eyes.

Nouveau Edwardian gold necklace sourced from eBay and earrings completed her look.
