Rather than pulling something from the Spring 2026 runway, she opted to take a direct leaf out of her mother’s book—figuratively and literally—by wearing the same black Calvin Klein slip dress Gwyneth wore to the Emma New York premiere in 1996. No reinterpretation, no update, no added flourish. Just the dress, worn again, decades later.

There’s something refreshingly unfussy about this choice. While fashion houses are increasingly mining their own pasts, this felt more personal. Why go searching through a brand archives when you have access to one of the most recognisable wardrobes of the ’90s sitting at home? Right down to the matching hairstyle, there is a familiarity—this dress has already lived a red carpet life, and Apple simply stepped into it.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen celebrity offspring turn to their mothers’ closets for major moments. Back in September last year, Kaia Gerber wore the white Hervé Léger dress Cindy Crawford famously wore to the 1993 Oscars, choosing continuity over reinvention.

The simplicity of the styling allowed the dress to do exactly what it did the first time around.

The same can’t quite be said for Millie Bobby Brown, who re-wore Gwyneth’s Armani gown from the Shakespeare in Love New York premiere for The Electric State Madrid premiere earlier this year, where the result didn’t land.

It’s interesting to see how Gen Z gravitates toward Gwyneth’s wardrobe as a reference point that still holds up.
