Ayo Edebiri Wore Chanel To The ‘After The Hunt’ New York Film Festival Premiere

Ayo Edebiri attended the After The Hunt premiere during the New York Film Festival on Friday night, and for the third event in a row, she wore Chanel.

This time, it all clicked. The black dress, with its chiffon bodice and velvet skirt, was elegant and assured in a way that felt completely right for her. Unlike the red Chanel Venice Film Festival gown, where I wasn’t convinced, this is the look that should have introduced her run with Chanel—sophisticated, modern, and worthy of a festival premiere.

Now, three Chanel appearances in quick succession raises the obvious question: is Ayo about to become a Chanel ambassador? There’s no official word yet, but this run certainly suggests an “ambassador-in-waiting.”

What excites me is how naturally this feels. I wouldn’t have immediately imagined her as a Chanel face; her style has always leaned more toward cool-girl minimalism with a creative twist. But this dress changed that perspective. It was striking, refined, and—most importantly—it felt like her.

It reminds me of when Emma Stone transitioned from playful Lanvin look to Louis Vuitton and Jennifer Lawrence going from that sparkling Prabal Gurung dress to Dior. Those were pivotal shifts, signalling the start of a new era. And with this Chanel moment, I can’t shake the feeling that Ayo is about to step into hers.
