Adèle Exarchopoulos usually gives me something to chew on, but at this year’s Venice Film Festival she leaned hard into understatement while promoting her new film, Chien 51.

Her Calvin Klein Collection Fall 2025 black tunic dress wasn’t shocking — she’s been reaching for black a lot lately — but the minimalism caught me off guard. Usually there is some kind of twist, but the simplicity was the whole story.

Closing Ceremony

With her new cropped hair and a moodier presence, Adèle went dark again in a long-sleeved black Balenciaga dress. From the front, it felt like nothing was happening, but the plunging back flashed her tattoo and body jewelry, giving it a little edge.

Still, I couldn’t help but feel underwhelmed.

Two outings, both muted. But maybe that’s the point.
