Xin Zhilei Wore Schiaparelli & Chanel Haute Couture To ‘The Sun Rises on Us All’ Venice Film Festival Photocall, Premiere & Closing Ceremony
Chinese actress Xin Zhilei won the Best Actress award at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday for her role in The Sun Rises on Us All, directed by Cai Shangjun. Throughout the festival, she showcased three style moments.

Photocall
On Friday, she opened with Schiaparelli Fall 2025, a brown jersey off-the-shoulder dress with that infamous trompe-l’oeil rose bodysuit. Zoe Saldana wore it first, so I already knew the rose was a painted illusion, but even when you expect the trick, it still makes you second-guess your eyes for a moment. Xin styled her dress with blush pumps, which I preferred to the styling of black from first outing.

Premiere
I was expecting to be wowed by her premiere look, but the Chanel ambassador chose a Fall 2025 Haute Couture halter-neck black satin wrap dress that opened onto a white satin skirt — and it fell flat.

I was ready to check out entirely until the back redeemed it.

Sometimes a gown only tells its story from certain angles, and this was one of those times.

Closing Ceremony
Collecting her Volpi Cup in Chanel Fall 2025 Haute Couture, Xin finally struck gold. The white chiffon tunic with golden-orange accents had movement and personality.

It was the sort of look I wish had been reserved for her premiere — something with grandeur and presence.

Still, it gave her a winning final chapter, and thankfully, Chanel stepped up the footwear this time.

Xin’s Venice wardrobe wasn’t flawless, but it had a narrative — a clever start, a flat middle, and a finale that shone just when it needed to.
