2024 CFDA Fashion Awards: Menswear Edition

The 2024 CFDA Fashion Awards at the American Museum of Natural History saw a spectrum of menswear looks ranging from boundary-pushing couture to polished, tailored statements. While some designs felt like true extensions of the wearers’ personalities, others veered into more questionable territory. Here’s a look at how these standout moments unfolded.

Darren Criss

Darren Criss delivered an unexpected look in a Christian Siriano Resort 2025 ensemble, pairing a black cropped tuxedo jacket with a purple ombré tulle skirt adorned in cascading rosettes. While the attempt to blend formal menswear with theatrical elements is noteworthy, this look felt a touch contrived and a far cry from Christian Siriano’s iconic 2019 Oscars tuxedo gown worn by Billy Porter. That gown was praised for its craftsmanship and groundbreaking statement, Darren’s outfit didn’t achieve the same impact, feeling more gimmicky than polished.

Troye Sivan

Troye Sivan, on the other hand, fully embraced his signature indie style with a custom Tanner Fletcher pinstripe suit. Complete with garter belt accents and a lace-trimmed tank under a sheer organza overlay, this look felt true to both Troye’s music and style personality. The suit’s playful details successfully balance high fashion with authenticity. Troye’s outfit stood out as one of the night’s best-executed menswear looks, proving that style can be both daring and deeply personal.

Sebastian Stan

Sebastian Stan took a subtler, more classic approach in a Thom Browne suit. Though I’m typically not fond of short trousers, Sebastian’s choice felt coherent, especially with the addition of white socks, which cleverly tied into the exposed cuffs of his white shirt and a white pocket square. The outfit adhered to Thom Browne’s iconic aesthetic while staying clean and cohesive. Sebastian’s look highlighted that menswear doesn’t always need bold statements to make an impression—sometimes, it’s about impeccable styling and thoughtful details.
