Kim Kardashian celebrated her 44th birthday on Monday, following a rather unfortunate look at the 2024 Academy Museum Gala, which she turned to Instagram to share not only her lavish gifts, but also yet another head-scratching ensemble.

The reality star stepped out in a Diesel Spring 2024 foiled stretch tulle maxi dress, complete with a liquid-like sheen, designed by Creative Director Glenn Martens.

While the glistening, avant-garde nature of the dress is right in line with Kim’s aesthetic and her fondness for boundary-pushing fashion, this look is leaving me with more questions than admiration.

The real confusion comes with the bodysuit element worn over the dress, which appears to clasp between her legs—a design choice I struggle to wrap my head around.

From the front, it’s already unusual, but when you see the back, it’s downright perplexing, as the thong detail sits underneath the dress. It creates an odd visual contrast, making one question the mechanics of how it’s all put together.

Glenn Martens has always been known for pushing creative boundaries, but in this case, I’m torn between applauding the ingenuity and raising an eyebrow at the absurdity.

Is the execution awkward rather than innovative? Can someone really roll their eyes and admire a look at the same time?
