Prada Beauty Is Finally Here

Prada has launched its innovative and elegant beauty collection made up of tech-augmented skincare and make-up inspired by its fashion archives.

Expect luminous skin, swoon-worthy eyeshadow palettes and matte Prada-embossed lippies for your beauty bag.

What’s the inspiration behind the capsule collection?

A fashion house that’s been innovating since its inception in 1913, it might not come as a surprise to you to learn that Prada is doing things differently when it comes to beauty, too.

An amalgamation of juxtaposing themes, Prada Beauty is all about challenging your traditional perception of make-up and skincare – in everything from the formulations to application, inspiration and aesthetic.

Within the collection are two main categories (Skin and Colour) to form a complete beauty routine.

Think hardworking skincare formulations powered by technology, an adaptable skincare-meets-makeup foundation and a colour palette that lets you experiment, play, and enjoy the more playful side of make-up.

Imbued by the archives and the iconic triangular logo, Prada make-up draws inspiration directly from collections gone by. The colour palette, for instance, pays reference to signature materials like the much-hyped Saffiano leather and Re-Nylon and matte lipstick textures come inspired by the same beauty trend seen at Prada’s first ready-to-wear runway in 1988.

Meanwhile, the eyeshadow palettes, with pops of powder blue and layers of golden yellow, have been inspired by Prada fashion’s 27,000-piece archive. They’re avant-garde but not without wearability. Something that make-up artist and Creative Director Lynsey Alexander had a helping hand in crafting: “My input [into Prada Beauty] is about creating interesting colours in a really wearable way.”

 “I want to create something that breaks boundaries – a shocking green or shocking pink or, you know, something a bit rebellious – but it has to be still beautiful and desirable and that comes from the superior finish.”

How To Create a Prada Make-up Look

While subjective and open to experimentation, Alexander recommends opting for a pop of colour via the eyes or lips and keeping skin glossy and pared back. “When you have a big statement, it needs to be able to speak its own volumes and I think that everything else needs to be quiet on the face. Otherwise, the elements compete against each other.” To that end, she suggests opting for a bold ultra matte lip look paired with minimalist, luminous skin or adding a wash of colour to the lids. To do so, you can layer on the colour using Prada’s brush tools blending out above the creases of the eyes.

“For me, it’s all about contradictions, it’s about shine and matte; it’s about really bold with really soft colours. Prada Make-up for me is a dialogue of extremes,” she concludes.

What sets it apart?

Skincare that adapts in real-time to environmental changes. An example of this starts with the formula’s ability to respond to skin stressors. “These products are based on a patented technology harnessing a trio of Adaptogens which was tested in vitro to demonstrate that it activated (or triggered activity) only when needed, for example, when exposed to oxidative stress,” explains Dr Lionel Breton, Neuropharmacologist and Skin Biology Expert. “In other words, it does not overstimulate the skin with high concentrations of actives which exhausts the skin, but works on demand, in real time.”

Not only does your skincare work in sync with your complexion – and yours alone – but it’s also been streamlined; the products work harder and omit the need for superfluous steps. The serum for instance is both for eyes and face, while the cleanser is a 2-in-1 formula. “The multi-benefit approach of these products mirrors the new aspirations of consumers who look to the ‘skinimalistic’ approach,” adds Dr Guillian Graves, Bioinspired Designer, Biomimetism Expert. This avoids overloading the skin with excess products, which can aggravate the skin and cause sensitivity.

How To Create a Prada Skincare Look

Start by using the Augmented Skin The Cleanser & Make-Up Remover, a multi-tasking, cream-to-foam cleanser powered by tech to remove your make-up and cleanse your skin. “Apply on a dry or damp face and emulsify with water,” adds Graves.

Next, apply your Augmented Skin Face & Eye Serum by pressing gently onto skin.
