Lupita Nyong’o Wore Prada To The 2022 Gotham Awards

Lupita Nyong’o attended the 2022 Gotham Awards which were held at Cipriani Wall Street on Monday (November 28) in New York City. 

During Lupita’s ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ promo tour, at some point I made peace with the fact that the actress wasn’t going to give us those glorious colourful looks, as the wardrobe appeared to be deliberately sombre (colourwise) as a mark of respect for Chadwick Boseman.

I had assumed that once the tour was over, we would get the colourful Lupita back, because nothing makes my keyboard strokes increase quicker than a boldly hue Lupita look (aside from Cannes, Venice, The Met Gala and Awards Season of course).

My assumption was wrong.

The actress wore a black Prada dress featuring a deep v-neckline and triangle detail (thankfully without the logo).

I have a few issues with this.

Firstly, I have never felt that a deep v-neck has ever been all that flattering for Lupita, but on this occasion the De Beers jewels helps to serve as a distraction.

Secondly, as beautiful, and simple as this dress is, it feels like it was designed for someone considerably older (if you ignore the v-neck and concentrate on the silhouette).

And lastly, I’m not here for the Jennitrification (all black all of the time) of Lupita.

I don’t want it. 

Where is the sauce? Where is the seasoning? Why do I feel like I want to cry?

Does is mark the end of an era?
