Diane Kruger In Jonathan Simkhai – 2017 Cannes Film Festival Closing Ceremony

Posted by Catherine Kallon

Diane Kruger attended the closing ceremony of the 2017 Cannes Film Festival this evening (May 28), where she picked up her Best Actress Award.

One should never underestimates the power of a floor-length gown; and this custom Jonathan Simkhai gown proves that statement to be the case.

Her off-the-shoulder gown instantly won me over with its cool and contemporary direction, and elegant cut.

Teamed with Chopard jewels, I think this was my favourite look from Diane over the festival.

Surprisingly more so than the Dior Couture gown.

Aaaand, she’s back. This is my favorite look from her in a long time. Its perfect. Classy, elegant and stunning! Love that necklace.

I love it, she looks so beautiful.

I can’t express just how much I adore this look (minus, possibly, the clutch, which I can’t see properly). On the surface it looks so simple though elegant, but allows for depth and interest when looked at more closely. The idiosyncratic sleeves for one, the jewel coming surprisingly close to matching her hair for another. She sometimes has a hard time winning me over but when she does, boy am I on board then!

The clutch is perfect too:) it’s beautiful and it matches the necklace. I’m completely in love with this look, it’s too perfect.

I love this look but it doesn’t have a wow factor .. it’s just pretty , the necklace is what’s make it for me .. the hair and makeup could’ve been better too.
But despite all that there is no denying that she’s gorgeous.

This is my favourite look from Diane and congrats for her win, too.

Really like this look, except for the hair. Would be perfect if she had retro hair…

GORGEOUS! It doesn’t top the Dior for me, but it’s a timeless look.

Love this gown! but she really needs a better hair stylist. Her hair has been bothering me for a while–ever since those one-sided messy bob with dark roots.

She looks so regal here. I love this dress even in the basic black! Those sleeves are awesome and that necklace is awesome with this. Its a flawless look h2t and I adore it.

Agree. This is better than the Dior Couture look. This is the case when the right styling could elevate or bring down the look. The pretty necklace she wore with this dress made her look even more perfect while the double choker she wore with the Dior Couture dress was questionable.

Her Dior was the best in my opinion, I still like this but I don’t see it as spectacular or even Cannes worthy.

The design is amazing, modern and chic and impactful, and I agree that this her best at the whole festival, but sadly not the best of the festival. In fact, when I imagine her standing between Fan Bingbing in Versace and Jessica Chastain in Murad, I see her fading into the background. A shame, really.

I agree this is my favorite from her at this festival. Sometimes less is more and she proves that here.

  16. Nat39 May 28, 2017 at 10:33 pm #

This is really beautiful, her best look at the festival, w/o a doubt.

Understated with a subtle flair of the sleeves. She looks chic.

  18. Schoolbea May 28, 2017 at 8:41 pm #

This design is so modern and clean, it suits her figure and her personality so wonderfully! I also prefer it to her Dior, even!
And I’m going to be in a minority here, but I looooove her hair!

    • Chris May 28, 2017 at 8:53 pm #

I agree about the hair, it looks awesome here and just adds to the modern touch of the look!

I don’t like the sleeves at all. The dress itself is Very flattering.I love love love the necklace. The hairstyle could have been better.

  20. justme May 28, 2017 at 8:08 pm #

    Congrats on her win!
I’ll be in the minority but I don’t like this look. The transition from the dress to the sleeves is bad imo. So is her hair.

+2, but I do look be the necklace.

      • JHH May 29, 2017 at 1:24 am #

        Love not look

  21. Chris May 28, 2017 at 7:49 pm #

This is beyond gorgeous. Her best look this year so far.
Also, she just won the Cannes ‘Best Actress’ prize and it seems to me this was an appropriate outfit for that moment.

    • Nat39 May 29, 2017 at 6:25 am #

Her best , w/o a doubt. I absolutely LOVE(!) how the look combines the current trendy elements and the timeless elegance. One of my very top faves, hands down.

Congrats, Diane! You do both great on red carpet and performance, it’s a good look for her to receive the award, the best German.
