Sofia Hellqvist Weds Prince Carl Philip Of Sweden In Ida Sjöstedt

Sofia Hellqvist, now Princess Sofia of Sweden, wed Prince Carl Philip of Sweden at The Royal Palace in Stockholm, Sweden on Saturday (June 13).

In homage to her country, the bride wore a gown by Swedish designer Ida Sjöstedt that was striking more for its refined simplicity and the subtle allure of the handmade lace overlay—no sparkling beaded embellishment needed.

She topped her sleek chignon with a long lace veil and a new, small diamond-and-emerald tiara given to her by her new in-laws, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia.

Beautifully effortless and sophisticated while carrying a glorious bridal bouquet, she looked every bit the princess.

I looked it up. There is no clear difference between tiaras and diadems and it appears to be an ongoing debate. Some consider them synonyms, and one website considers tiaras and coronets to be a subset of diadem.

Diadem… Please learn the difference between diadems and tiaras. They are completely different. Look it up.

I love the styling. The hair and tiara are stunning, and she looks beautiful. The gown is tasteful though not particularly memorable.

Sofia has been wearing a lot of outfits lately that could be considered very safe. This one tops them all as far as that goes. However, I think a lot of that has to do with her past, not that she just didn’t add personality to her dress. She is keen to show that she is princess material, and has moved on from her glamour model past. This was perfect in that regard. The personality really showed through in the music selection during the ceremony… covers of ‘Fix You” by Coldplay and “Umbrella” by Rihanna, and a gospel version of “Joyful, Joyful” that had everyone clapping as the couple exited. I’ve watched quite a few royal weddings and have never seen anything like this one!

They look so happy, but I agree with those who can’t see any personal touch amidst all this generic-ness

What sets this looks apart from more glamorous wedding dress renditions is the utter joy of both the bride and the groom. I am in awe of their happiness together. This is what matters the most. Besides, both of them look impeccable.

The personal touch is her tattoo! She has one on her neck and it was clearly visible, much to my surprise. I would have thought that she had to cover it up, but no. I think that was all the statement she needed, besides looking like an absolute angel.

Haha, I will take your point, Caro. But it doesn’t change my feelings about the dress itself.

Can I be the first to say, it does NOT look like the wedding dress of the Duchess of Cambridge; as all my friends have been commenting. Both dresses are different and both brides are different, but both were beautiful on their big day. Also, I love how Princess Sofia had her hair up and the look of the tiara with the veil was exquisite.

I know that there is a certain look royals are going for in their wedding and it is a very aesthetically pleasing look but I can’t help but wish there was something different here, matching the bride’s personality to make things interesting and set her apart from all the other brides

Agreed. The dress was standard good but nothing remarkable.
