Bold names filled the front row of the Chanel Paris-Salzburg 2014/15 Metiers d’Art Collection at the Park Avenue Armory in New York City on Tuesday (March 31), where the collection of stars naturally all wore their Chanel head-to-toe best to watch the Austrian-inspired designs take to the runway.

Dakota Johnson: The ’50 Shades of Grey’ star continued to break outside her black-and-white-color shell in a warmly neutral Chanel Spring 2014 Couture dress with tonal button detailing. The strength of this look was in the silhouette that played with proportion in the cropped jacket and sleeves and defined waist. Sophisticatedly subtle with an edge, the look was styled with a classic black Chanel bag and tough-chic shoe boots.

Helen Lasichanh and Pharrell Williams: The power couple were well-coordinated; she in a characteristic, cropped Chanel jacket in multi-colour tweed mixed with the urban appeal of a sporty-luxe pair of gold grid shorts. Black tights, biker boots, and a white shoulder bag completed the split-personality look that somehow worked for Helen. As the face of the Paris-Salzburg 2014/15 collection, Pharrell obliged in regal style, rocking out a double-breasted, military-inspired coat with long white shorts and a captain’s hat. It was a performance-ready look, so it was only fitting that he later took the stage with Cara Delevingne to sing ‘CC The World.’

Lily Collins: Wearing a skirt version of Helen’s grid shorts, the starlet paired the geometric piece with the softer, romantic lines of a complementary midriff top that wrapped and tied at the back. A few bangles and a pair of embellished statement shoes, along with her piece-y cropped cut, were the finishing touches for a look that could have easily been overwhelmed by over-styling.

Alexa Chung: Flaunting her signature mannish-chic style, she put a seductive spin on the masculine lines of the gray tweed Chanel Spring 2015 suit with a sheer black lace cami. Stilettos would have continued the sexy intrigue, but that would have not been Alexa, so she wore a pair of patent black brogues instead and proved her cool-girl vibe all the more.

Julianne Moore: The actress, who wore Chanel Couture to the 2015 Oscars, was in similarly fine form on this occasion. I loved the relaxed-chic lines of her tweedy black coatdress, which set her flame-red locks afire, accessorized by the sass of black strappy heels—effortless without a touch of try-hard.

Lily-Rose Depp: Attending the show with mum Vanessa Paradis, Lily-Rose wore a Chanel Spring 2015 Couture cropped tube top and pencil skirt in pastel shades punctuated by beaded floral embroidery and silver belting. The look was youthfully spirited, decorated by a matching collar piece, even if the toe-cap pumps wouldn’t have been my first choice.

Vanessa Paradis: In similarly trend-forward yet timeless style, Vanessa wore a furry black coatdress with a silver crisscross motif and embellished belt. A red lip and black pumps were all that were needed to pull together the look.

Beyonce Knowles: Continuing to put her pins on display after the Tidal launch, Bey made a surprise appearance at the Chanel show. Although she skipped the red carpet, her Chanel Fall 2014 look attracted plenty of attention with a micro-mini plum-hued leather skirt and whimsically printed jacket serving as the standout pieces. A beige sweater, booties and a burgundy Chanel bag completed the ensemble that had an urban, hip-hop-street appeal but didn’t exactly fit in with the rest of the front-row looks.
