Nicki Minaj In Versace – 2012 Grammy Awards

Nicki Minaj wanted to ensure that she was the talking point of the 2012 Grammy Awards.

Congrats. Mission accomplished.

She wore a one-of-a-kind scarlet satin Versace robe with the label’s signature Medusa head emblazoned across the skirt.

Matching short sequin-embellished gloves completed her look, which is more ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ than an attempt at religious chic.

The most shocking thing about this look is Versace’s involvement as I’m totally numb to Nicki’s and Lady Gaga’s antics.

  2. serenissima7 February 14, 2012 at 5:19 pm #

i agree 100%… i am completely desensitized… she looks ridiculous… there is nothing fashionable or artistic about this look, it simply screams, ‘LOOK AT ME!’

  3. beadingchef February 13, 2012 at 7:02 pm #

tacky, without taste, and boring, too bad she can’t sing either.

  4. lu February 13, 2012 at 4:34 pm #

If you want people to respect you because of your talent don´t make a show by offending people. If you just want the attention then, yes, do this. It´s so ridiculous!

  5. Jojo February 13, 2012 at 2:43 pm #

    Little red riding hood? LOL

  6. Jess February 13, 2012 at 1:10 pm #

just horrible…so cheap looking, thought it was knock-off Versace not the real thing

  7. Carolina Roq February 13, 2012 at 1:02 pm #

    horrendous, terrible, ridiculous

  8. Michelle February 13, 2012 at 12:57 pm #

  9. Barbs February 13, 2012 at 12:09 pm #

She looks like litlle red riding hood. If it wasn’t for the pope I would look out for the wolf! Like someone said above, congrats to Adele that sings well enough to do not need for this ridiculous shock tactics! As you said once FC, I would be more shocked if LadyGaga wore a white tee and jeans. I say the same to Nicki!

    • CreoleLady February 13, 2012 at 6:35 pm #

Omg, that’s it! I know you meant Little Red Ridinghood as a joke. But perhaps wolves not only come clad in sheep’s clothing but in the vestments of the church. And before Donatella, there was another Versace. Brava.

Such a pathetic attempt. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that I think Lady Gaga does controversy well. She pokes and prods societal taboos and promotes self-awareness and liberation.
This is just a sad attempt at drawing attention. The whole “message” she’s trying to convey aside, she looks awful.

  11. robbie February 13, 2012 at 9:45 am #

looks as if she knocked it up herself with a sewing machine, tacky, trashy, cheap and vulgar. then again those 4 words describe nicki perfectly.

  12. CreoleLady February 13, 2012 at 9:41 am #

Whatev. So over Gaga, Nicky, blue-haired Katy et al.

  13. Jess2 February 13, 2012 at 9:34 am #

Over it, music awards shows has just turned into a competition, who can out do the other, Nicki Minaj or Lady Gaga

  14. Tae February 13, 2012 at 7:06 am #

Nicki clearly needs prayer, to me it was all for the talk just so the people with good sense can notify the different people in this world but she look the worst and example was pointess besides she look more like a devil. One the other hand Lady Gaga look like she needs to be locked up in a cage in a dark place alone somewhere. She needs prayer as well being sucessful should not require all that unnecessary outter appearance. I hope one day they get it, I wish we had more simple artist like back in the day the ones who wore simple clothes and sang the truth.

This takes obnoxious branding to a whole level. Hysterically ugly, but strangely compelling.

  17. Cindy February 13, 2012 at 5:08 am #

trying so hard to look like Gaga.

    • Parvati February 13, 2012 at 9:09 pm #

      My thoughts, exactly.

Lil’ Kim and her boob pasty was so much better than this mess…. lol… Nicki… I can’t… lol…

  20. LizLemooooon February 13, 2012 at 4:49 am #

    Embarassing and stupid.

Shock tactics for the sake of it. She and Lady Gaga need to have a stadium full of seats.

  21. mikeijames February 13, 2012 at 4:49 am #

versace has had a lot of headline moments in the last twelve months and i’m glad they’ve managed to keep the momentum going.

  22. Alice February 13, 2012 at 4:49 am #

I don’t even hate the outfit, I just think the dumb, premeditated stunts that go along with it are pretentious and stale.

      Ditto. It’s getting old fast.

  23. Ariel February 13, 2012 at 4:42 am #

It looks like one of those robes boxers wear! Horrible! Worst dressed!

  24. EVE HARLOWE February 13, 2012 at 4:38 am #

    ….silly Rabbit!!!

  25. Jennesia February 13, 2012 at 4:36 am #

    This is just dumb.

  26. Em February 13, 2012 at 4:34 am #

I’m so over Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj’s gimmicks. So tacky.

  27. Giuseppi Giraffe February 13, 2012 at 4:34 am #

Oh how shocking. A recording artist using an overt religious theme in her act to shock and offend and make a statement. It’s super original just like Lady Gaga and Madonna and the hundred million other people who’ve already done it. I’m so shocked offended- some give this girl an award. Incidentally, as a stand alone piece, it seems a bit shapeless and silly, but maybe that’s my impression because I get so annoyed by people like this thinking that dancing dressed up like a hoochy nun will make them stand out.

Also, sorry for ranting about a non-fashion subject, but in light of this I think Adele really shines. That woman shows up and sings and whoops everybody without all the bells and whistles.

Actually, I think Nicki is dressing like a cardinal, not a nun. I’m not going to get into politics or the moral credibility of the Vatican or the role of women in the Catholic church. But to be fair, even though I am over the antics of Gaga and Nicki etc, I can see more to this look than just shock value.

    • dee February 13, 2012 at 8:43 pm #

I appreciate it too. What happened to just singing? She had the best performance.

  28. MEME February 13, 2012 at 4:33 am #

Can anybody tell me what the HELL was that in her performance????…. that mess was WAAAAAAACK!!!!… I’m embarrassed for this chile….

  29. Henrique February 13, 2012 at 4:27 am #

She looked ridiculous but I loved her performance lol

  30. mm February 13, 2012 at 4:20 am #

I was confused about this look and didnt get the plot to her performance either.

    • Terry February 13, 2012 at 4:38 pm #

I used to like Nicki, but her absurd performance and appearance on the red carpet had totally let me down. What was she thinking? After all (bad, more than good) we’ve seen from Lady GaGa, does she really think the shock factor is still relevant? And Versace? Why did they design such a hideous outfit for her?

      • j February 14, 2012 at 12:12 am #

People are starting to really go crazy with these stupid clothes they wear to the Grammy Awards, like who the heck are u. Get real and don’t insult the Pope. Can’t stand this type of crap. Teaching our kids ridiculous behavior. She belongs at the circus with clowns.

  31. molly February 13, 2012 at 4:20 am #

Awful…I dont have anything more to say.

I was gonna say meh but yawn is perfect too

  33. Ade February 13, 2012 at 4:14 am #

Watching the performance I totally get why she wore this with that said. What in hell? I enjoyed the theatrics of the performance but if only someone else did it. But she tried.

  34. Patricia February 13, 2012 at 4:12 am #

    Totaly Ridiculous… I can’t say anything more.

    • Emi February 13, 2012 at 8:33 am #

I agree with you and I would add totally tasteless. I’m not Catholic, but it’s very tasteless to “use” the Pope to grab attention. But she wouldn’t grab anybody’s attention arriving dressed like a normal girl, there were so many other gorgeous, well dressed and more talented artists so that was the only way for her.

      • CTgirl February 13, 2012 at 1:25 pm #

        +1 x 10

      • EmmaWoodhouse February 13, 2012 at 2:15 pm #

+1×100 to Emi. I am a Catholic and I find this really tasteless. How about respecting religion, Nicki? Even if people don’t agree about it they can still respect the fact that it is a very serious thing to other people! I guess I’m not shocked by this display but it is still super-tacky.

      • lu February 13, 2012 at 4:35 pm #

        + 1000

    • kate February 14, 2012 at 12:23 am #

I can’t believe we focus energy on these stupid people. With all the important things going on in the world we should be using airtime to teach kids something better and we use it for these freaken morons dressing up like idiots getting their photo taken. meat dresses, space suits, pope outfits, what’s next? post it note dress? i mean really??
