Fashion Rebel 2014 – Rihanna

Fashion Rebel 2014 - Rihanna

She’s provocative. She’s brash. She’s bold. And she’s completely unapologetic. All of which makes Rihanna the perfect recipient for our Fashion Rebel nod, a newly added Best Of award for 2014.

Rihanna has been pushing the envelope and colouring outside the lines for awhile now, but this past year may have claimed her most memorably daring ensembles yet. Breaking all the rules, she marched to her own uber-sexy beat, showing off her attitude and assets, often with as little fabric as humanly possible.

She rocked a risqué Tom Ford white gown at the amfAR L.A. Inspiration Gala with strategically placed purple embellishments. A Stella McCartney oversized tuxedo blazer—and nothing else—was her look du jour at the British Fashion Awards.

Yet none of her rebel wardrobe could have prepared us for that gown at the CFDA Fashion Awards—you know the one. The sparkling, sheer Adam Selman fishnet dress was one Swarovski crystal away from total nakedness, but we’d expect nothing less from our resident fashion rebel. Her gothic-punk, black sheer lace Givenchy Couture number at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, worn with a green pout, was tame in comparison but no less unorthodox.

It’s not that she didn’t have plenty more modest, at least on her terms, outings. But they still had every bit of Rihanna’s signature sexed-up, rebel edge—just without so much skin. Sometimes even rebels have a softer side, after all.

Rihanna In Christian Dior Couture – Paris Video Shoot

Rihanna In Christian Dior Couture - Paris Video Shoot

Rihanna was spotted shooting her new video at Trocadero Gardens on Thursday (December 18) in Paris, France, with her French fans.

The singer wore a Dior Fall 2014 grey jumpsuit styled with the blue gloves we saw on the runway.

Pardon me for saying so, but Rihanna looks like she’s just escaped from a loony bin.

From the jumpsuit and the crazy haircut to her manic demeanour, I can’t get on board with this particular look.

Rihanna In Zac Posen – First Annual Diamond Ball for the Clara Lionel Foundation Performance

Rihanna and The Clara Lionel Foundation Presents The Inaugural Diamond Ball - Inside

Rihanna performed on stage during her Diamond Ball for The Clara Lionel Foundation held at The Vineyard on Thursday (December 11) in Beverly Hills, California.

A big performance needs a big gown and they don’t come much bigger than a Zac Posen gown.

Having worn a gown by the same designer for the red carpet, she opted to go bigger, donning a midnight-blue duchesse and taffeta strapless ball gown from the Resort 2015 collection, which dominated the stage.

Opting for yet another stunning Chopard necklace, this Met Gala-worthy gown was brimming with both drama and glamour – i.e. it couldn’t have been a more perfect fit for Rihanna.

Rihanna In Zac Posen - Inaugural Diamond Ball for the Clara Lionel Foundation

Rihanna hosted the First Annual Diamond Ball for the Clara Lionel Foundation held at The Vineyard on Thursday (December 11) in Beverly Hills, California.

Opting to take a night off from wearing Tom Ford (thankfully, I hear you cry), the singer went for high glamour, wearing a very distinctive Zac Posen Fall 2014 off-the-shoulder gown in a lush rose hue.

The gown is simply breathtaking and the colour is so gorgeous against her caramel skin, but what makes this look for me is her stunning Chopard tourmaline and diamond necklace with a matching ring and stud earrings.

She also wore a ruby cuff, but it gets lost against the backdrop of her hand tattoo.

Working a slicked-back ponytail and dark cherry hue lip, does this rank as one of Rihanna’s best looks this year?

Rihanna In Jenny Packham – Edward Enninful British Fashion Awards After-Party

Rihanna In Jenny Packham - Edward Enninful British Fashion Awards After-Party

Rihanna and Naomi Campbell attended a party in celebration of Edward Enninful – who took home the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator at the British Fashion Awards – held at the Oscar Wilde Bar, Hotel Cafe Royal, on Monday (December 1) in London, England.

While Naomi opted to wear the same Alexander McQueen gown she wore to the event, Rihanna chose to change out of the Stella McCartney blazer she wore on the red carpet.

Opting for a distinctly British label, she wore a gorgeous Jenny Packham Fall 2014 ivory crystal embellished slip dress, keeping her hair up in the chic bun while removing some of the heavy styling that accompanied her previous look.

I know many hated her red carpet look, but I loved it. This look concludes a great night for her, going from bold and sexy to sexy and sweet.

She’s on a roll and she can do no wrong for me.
