Thandie Newton In Vivienne Westwood Couture for The Green Carpet Challenge – ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ Cannes Film Festival Premiere

Following the photocall, I was excited to see what Thandie Newton would be serving up at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ this evening (May 15).

The British actress wore a custom Vivienne Westwood Couture gown, printed with images of Thandie’s personal Star Wars figurine collection.

Each character was photographed by Christian Hogstedt and was layered over the iconic Vivienne Westwood ‘Absence of Roses’ print.

The print was created especially as an homage to Thandie’s first appearance in the motion-picture franchise.

If you were thinking, “this is just another standard Westwood dress,” hopefully the back story with encourage you to look again at this gown with fresh eyes.

I love seeing the action figures on the dress. It is fun. I mean this as a compliment it reminds me of the image from my bed sheets as a young boy 40 years ago.

I would love to see all the images on the dress. I would also like to know If these are really images of the only the figures she personally owns or was a quasi political statement on diversity in science fiction and Star Wars. More power to her if it was a political statement.

Star Wars and the Star Wars fan community is enriched by having an actress as talented and lovely as Ms. Newton join the saga.

LOVE!! This is custom at an Nth level. What a lovely idea behind the textile.

Beautiful, but underwhelming and a little bit disappointing. She’s Thandie.

I like the look the more I look at it styling and all….I love that they had a concept and brought it to life in such a creative way. Another hit for Thandie imo.

I was expecting a lot more for tonight after her look for the press conference this morning. I prefer the Valentino a million times.

This is lovely, but I expected so much more from her for a Cannes premiere.

No from head to toe. BUT I love the story behind it. Its a cute idea.
But the dress is just so limp. And the hair and makeup is a no.

She’s gorgeous but I’m not excited by the dress, tbh, I guess I hoped for.. more from her. Not her best.

What a stunning woman. The Westwood a bit cray in design and fit but it works for the ocassion and wearer.

I absolutely love this. She looks like some kind of glorious space superstar. Love everything about it. It fits her perfectly, the silhouette looks beautiful on her frame. I love the story of the pattern, but also wouldn’t have needed it – I like that it’s a bit of a cheeky visual. Hair and makeup are stellar.

Knocked it out of the park!

I could never be mad at another Westwood gown. I am not pleased with her styling however. I wish she’d kept the hair from the photo call as her curls looked amazing there while this is like a bird nested on her.

Love all Thandie and Vivienne pairings. The eyeshadow was a smart choice as well.

    I love this!
The dress is great , the color looks so great on her ski tone, and I like the story behind (even if I’m not a Star Wars fan) and I love her styling.
