Zhang Yuqi In Ulyana Sergeenko Couture – ‘The Great Gatsby’ Premiere & Cannes Film Festival Opening Ceremony

Zhang Yuqi In Ulyana Sergeenko - ‘The Great Gatsby’ Premiere & Cannes Film Festival Opening Ceremony

This Asian beauty was one of the first to take the red carpet this evening for ‘The Great Gatsby’ Cannes Film Festival premiere, however, Getty incorrectly tagged her as Fan Bingbing, so I had to ask who this mysterious lady was on Twitter. Thanks to some helpful readers, she has been indentified at Zhang Yuqi.

She wore a Spring 2013 Couture gown by Russian designer Ulyana Sergeenko, whose stunning creations we don’t see enough of on the red carpet.

Stamping her mark at this ceremony, Zhang’s striking pea-green off-the-shoulder gown with a deep plunging neckline was styled with marcel waves and a cherry red Jimmy Choo ‘Claire’ clutch.

This look was also one of my top 10 of the night.

Who was in your top 10 tonight? The best dressed poll will follow later this evening.

My favourites so far are Carey Mulligan, Cara Delavigne, Solange Knowles, Nicole Kidman, Cindy Crawford and Zhan Yuki.

  2. Aline May 15, 2013 at 22:29 #

    That’s. More. Like. It!
Finally a gown that looks grand enough for Cannes!

As for a top 10, to be quite honest, I’m extremely disappointed by what we got tonight. Yuqi will easily get my vote on the poll.

    • noo May 15, 2013 at 22:33 #

i agree with you about the disappointment :S the red carpet was so lackluster this year! i missed the presence of cannes queens diane kruger and aishwarya rai! also the girls who did come looked like they were dressing for a high-end prom! i am also voting yuqi, but i loved nicole’s look and freida pinto!

    • dee May 15, 2013 at 22:35 #

I am on the same page as you.

    • Thais May 15, 2013 at 23:32 #

I was a bit disappointed too, but this gown it’s just breath taking! This will be one of those unforgettable looks of the year!

    • Prudence May 16, 2013 at 01:13 #

agreed! the opening was fairly BLAH, This girl for sure takes the lead she looks marvelous! This is what you wear to cannes, no minimalism garbage! I also loved Freida and Nicole was just good not great.

  3. kane May 15, 2013 at 22:30 #

What a gown, what a colour! While I like the close up of her face with lipstick and earrings, I am even more intrigued by the accessories on the left.

  4. Yeliz May 15, 2013 at 22:35 #

I have no idea who she is, but she looks delightful. The green looks amazing on her and even though I hate plunging necklines with such boobage, for some reason I’m not that much bothered by it on this occasion. Love her hair and the clutch.

I don’t know if I saw all the looks from tonight, but here is my Top 10:

    1. Lana Del Rey
    2. Carey Mulligan
    3. Nicole Kidman
    4. Fan Bingbing
    5. Zhang Yuqi
    6. Vahina Giocante
    7. Naomie Harris
    8. Isla Fisher
    9. Freida Pinto
    10. Solange Knowles

  10. Ysatis May 15, 2013 at 23:04 #

I think she looks amazing. What a statement colour.
Before reading this blog I didn’t know anything about Asian actresses. I don’t want to sound racist or sexist, but I find many of them have this dainty, ethereal, graceful, romantic, old fashion elegance and feminity that we rarely see in western actresses.

  11. kathryn May 15, 2013 at 23:10 #

First let me preface that for me this opening ceremony has been extremely disappointing. We miss you Diane!!

    1. Nicole Kidman
    2. Carey Mulligan
    3. Zhang Yuqi
    4. Solange Knowles
    5. Lana Del Rey (LOVE the darker hair!)

  12. TIPTOP May 15, 2013 at 23:22 #

    she is my top1 now

OMG sooooo stunning ,the lady and the dress
    I like Nicole Kidman too

  13. Paulo May 15, 2013 at 23:23 #

Nicole Kidman in Dior Couture! Love that she showed us 2 black looks (gorgeous looks btw!) and then she surprises with color head to toe!

  14. Marybeth May 15, 2013 at 23:31 #

Wow. I love this enough to forget the excess boobage.

In no particular order, my 5 favorites from tonight are Zhang Yuqi, Nicole Kidman (Dior,) Naomie Harris, Fan Bing Bing, and Sonam Kapoor.

  15. Jess May 16, 2013 at 00:08 #

….and we have a winner! utterly divine

  16. Cass May 16, 2013 at 00:54 #

    Absolutely divine indeed!

  17. Jess May 16, 2013 at 01:11 #

It’s great, but has no one noticed that it looks really really similar to uma thurman’s dress at the met??

  18. Ramsay May 16, 2013 at 01:36 #

Unless you’re Scarlett O’hara this dress this way to much

    • Mindi May 16, 2013 at 01:55 #

Yep. She looks lovely, but all I can think of is Scarlett O’Hara.

    • Anne May 16, 2013 at 01:59 #

+1 On the Scarlett comparison. I fiddle-dee-dee’d when I first saw it, too

      • Alicat May 16, 2013 at 02:17 #

+2 My thoughts were that it is a bit princessy but the Gone With the Wind parallel is spot on. The statement colour is what saves it. I do like her hair and makeup.

  19. Christine May 16, 2013 at 01:51 #

No top ten more like 5. She looks amazing.

  20. Cindy May 16, 2013 at 03:31 #

Gorgeous dress….why, oh why the excess boobage????
She still might get my vote…maybe.

  21. TR May 16, 2013 at 03:44 #

She looks stunning, reminding me of Fan Bingbing’s Oscar de la renta look back in 2011.

  22. EmmaWoodhouse May 16, 2013 at 04:32 #

Oh, bring that neckline up! It’s too much! I’m disappointed, because with a more dignified neckline this would have been my winner of the night–the color, the skirt, the drama–all great. But I can’t get behind the neckline.
    My top four:
    1. Fan Bing Bing
    2. Freida Pinto
    3. Nicole Kidman
    4. Naomie Harris
Missing Diane, but I am looking forward to more looks tomorrow!

  23. Joy May 16, 2013 at 05:09 #

Oh My God, I’m in love with this dress. The color is divine. She looks so beautiful. Maybe if someone more well known (like Fan BingBing) had worn the dress it would be getting more attention. She looks absolutely stunning!

  24. Peonies and Pancakes May 16, 2013 at 05:30 #

I’m absolutely in love with this dress. Have been a fan of Ulyana Sergeenko for years now. Her style is elegant and so, vintage-y.

  25. Peonies and Pancakes May 16, 2013 at 05:37 #

Apparently, the dress is a tribute to Scarlett O’Hara’s (from Gone With The Wind)famous green curtain dress.

    • Catherine Kallon May 16, 2013 at 10:10 #

a perfect tribute if I ever saw one.

  26. Alina May 16, 2013 at 05:37 #

Love the drama that this look is bringing!

  27. the ogre May 16, 2013 at 05:40 #

yay! cannes finally! ok i saw lana del rey’s post but wasn’t too enamoured but now i am. haven’t seen the rest yet. will do so step by step. it’s like unwrapping a x-mas present. i love the accessories here! beautiful clutch. i couldn’t read this blog for the past two days…sigh!

  28. Dhppy May 16, 2013 at 06:16 #

I’m not into fairy princess gowns. At least the boobs are a distraction from the confection.

  29. Angie May 16, 2013 at 12:25 #

Amazing! She is my best dressed so far.

  30. Jess2 May 17, 2013 at 10:59 #

I am completely obsessed, so in love with this. Absolute perfection from head to toe! I do wish we saw more of Ulyana’s designs more often. I think Zhang is my favourite of the night.
