Kate Mara In Prada – 2013 White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner

Kate Mara In Prada - 2013 White House Correspondents' Association Dinner

Before Kate Mara took a seat with her ‘House of Cards’ co-stars Robin Wright and Kevin Spacey at the 2013 White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner last night in Washington D.C., she dealt her own fashion card on the red carpet.

At first glance, her crisp white Prada gown just registered as plain.

But Miuccia Prada’s signature quirk factor came into play with the oversized bow plastered to the neckline and the slightly exaggerated poof of the three-quarter sleeve.

Another unexpected, cool-girl twist—and the only real spot of colour here—was her zesty lime-green, embellished Prada clutch.

To match the simple vintage mood of her dress, her styling was effortlessly done with a slate-blue smokey eye, nude lippie and side-parted bun.

Was Kate’s look white-haute or white-not, in your opinion?

I hate the oversized bow and some earrings are missing.

  2. Christine April 28, 2013 at 17:06 #

Not liking the bow on the dress. I would be nice to see a new hairstyle from her.

  3. Yeliz April 28, 2013 at 17:13 #

I like this sleek, simple look. Normally I hate oversized bows, but it doesn’t bother me here.

      ITA.

+1 it’s the first Prada gown I like in a long time. I love the simplicity, it’s like a palate cleanser

My favorite Prada gown in…let’s just say a long time. It reminds me of an Azzaro look, with that oversized bow. Simple but very elegant and with just the right touch of quirk. Great clutch.

+1 The first Prada gown I’ve liked in a long time. Simple and beautiful, and I love that bow so much, it makes it fun. And I love the clutch too!

looking amazing. her make-up is dramatic..don’t her brown eyes reach right out to you? Classic..

  7. Rosanna April 28, 2013 at 18:42 #

    Simple, but not boring.

      +1

HORRID dress. The giant bow just make things worse. She looks like a giant doll . How can anyone choose a Prada dress for such occasion is beyond my reasoning.

  9. Marybeth April 28, 2013 at 18:47 #

White-haute, IMO. I really like it.
The dress is just okay but, unlike most Prada gowns, has nothing that annoys or distracts me.
Kate’s styling and poise lift the look up.

  10. TeaAtTwo April 28, 2013 at 18:58 #

I really like the simplicity but with subtle quirks of the look but she never gives much life or presence to her look.

  11. Rebecca Z April 28, 2013 at 19:54 #

She makes such odd choices and presents herself so solemnly on the red carpet. I’d love to see her in a sunny color with a smile. I find this too boring for words.

  12. Noemi April 28, 2013 at 20:27 #

White-haute, for me. This dress is beautiful, but I don’t like the bracelet, it’s useless. I also like the make up.

  13. C April 28, 2013 at 20:48 #

Not an astounding show that evening but I’d say this is my favourite.

  14. Aline April 28, 2013 at 20:52 #

I’m not usually a Prada fan, but I like this dress. It is simple but it also is sophisticated, so I’m on board.

However, I’m extremely tired of this hairstyle on her.

  15. Southern Cross April 28, 2013 at 21:21 #

White-haute, if you ask me; simple but striking. To me there’s something Tilda-Swinton-esque about the minimalism, and the way the bow is almost architectural.

  16. asherlev1 April 28, 2013 at 21:41 #

Gorgeoussss. I’ve been increasingly getting into minimalist looks, and now they’re one of my favorites styles. J’adore.

  17. Nat39 April 28, 2013 at 22:30 #

Don’t care for this look, the bow detail is silly, and from the neck up – way too severe. Love the pretty clutch though.

  18. Alicat April 28, 2013 at 23:46 #

It is quite a severe look especially with the hairstyle. I do like her eye makeup. She looks elegant. I guess I am just sitting on the fence…

  19. Neli April 29, 2013 at 01:30 #

Boring! Only the make looks good.

  20. Thomas April 29, 2013 at 02:49 #

The only thing I love about the look is the make-up and hair. Should be more tailored to the arms, and the bow.. really?! Something Helen Mirren would look great in

  21. Prudence April 29, 2013 at 04:27 #

the top of the dress looks too big on her, I do not like the color on her or even this style of dress and I really don’t like her victoria beckham like attitude of never smiling. Her style is very overrated to me, she has rarely impressed.

  22. dee April 29, 2013 at 13:44 #

Love the makeup. The dress is OK.

  23. Nat April 29, 2013 at 14:13 #

The bow ruined the dress for me.

  24. Moxie April 29, 2013 at 15:33 #

White not. Hating that bow. Love the clutch, but the nude lip isn’t working with this look.

  25. Kathy April 30, 2013 at 02:52 #

I’m very much on the fence with this one. While I adore Kate’s blue smoky eye and her accessories, the dress itself feels is not nearly as exciting. Besides the oversize bow, there’s not much to it at all. It’s stark white, it has 3/4 sleeves, it’s floor-length…AND?! Sometimes simplicity works because the article of clothing is striking enough to make a statement on its own, but this, unfortunately, is not one of those cases.
