Amanda Seyfried absolutely glowed as she glided down the red carpet Sunday at the 2013 Oscars held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
The ‘Les Misérables’ actress wore a custom Alexander McQueen halter gown.
The lilac organza gown covered in silver dragonfly embroidery is a subtle enough hue to be perfectly in line with the trend of the night–nude–but the halter and keyhole neckline do stand apart from the crowd of strapless gowns.
Her pastel makeup, softly finished hair and Lorraine Schwartz earrings complete a perfectly ethereal look, but unfortunately, the whole thing strikes me as a little dated (1980s), and I’m not crazy about it.

great dress, horrible hair.
Washes her out greatly. Underwhelmed.
ditto
This is a terrible look for her. PERIOD.
I have to agree on the 80′s comment. I’m very disappointed
the color washes her out
Somehow similar to her Golden Globes dress but better – her hair is too mature for her – She looks OK, McQueen usually delivers more
This feels really dated, teamed with the aging `do, it`s a miss for Amanda.
Similar to the GOlden Globes because of the keyhole. I much prefer this dress, as the keyhole (though still a bit too low) is less revealing. The dress is quite beautiful, although I hope there is some color on the RC tonight! The dragonflies are beautiful, and I love the trailing train…the hair gives it a Victorian feel which I do enjoy, so all in all this look gets a thumbs up from me!!!
Love the gown, just not on Amanda. It washes her out and the hair is horrible.
Including the nude(silver?) gown and the softly colored makeups, everything washes her out…
Disaster imo.
I don’t like the dress. And while I agree that a high neckline calls for an updo, this one is pretty bad.
+1
It’s so blah. Pretty, but nothing special.
She looks much better on tv but this isn’t her best.
I don’t like the dress at all, and wrong color on her as well
I actually really like this whole look!! I think it makes her look older, but in a good way–she looks very sophisticated.
The hair is my main problem. A braided up do like one she did at ‘Les miserable’ New York première would have good.
No from me. Unflattering colour, bad makeup and frizzy beauty queen hair.
This dress was much prettier on film, but her hair was much worse. From the side, it looks exactly like Bride of Frankensten. My husband said, “She has evil hair!”.
Nothing to like here.
I’m gonna go against everyone here. I love this, and I think she looks fantastic. In all honesty, she was my best dressed.
I was so excited when I heard she was wearing McQueen. But this look disappoints me. The color washes her out and the hair is bad.
I loved it on TV — the color stood out more. But she’s looking washed out in the photo. The hair was either too messy or too old looking.
I expected much more from her, but not this. I agree with everyone who said it washes her out, it really does. And that hair is aging her terribly. Plus this gown kinda reminds me of her Globes Givenchy gown. She looks good from the neck down, but I really wished she wore another colour.
Her hair looks like what my hair looks in the front when I just grab a hair elastic and puts it up. Aka not good enough for the Oscars.
I feel like she went to Sarah Burton and purposely asked for a boring dress because THIS IS NOT THE MCQUEEN WE ALL LOVE. this is the kind of mcqueen boring celebs require. 3/10
This reminds me of the Stella McCartney dress Kate Hudson wore one year that had the unfortunate fringe jacket, but it was the same lavendery colour, not successful on camera against her skin and hair.
Love her hair and makeup but the dress is a snoozefest. What she wore for the performance was MUCH better.
i don’t know. she looks ethereally charming and beautiful. i love that dress. it’s gorgeous. but i agree that the hair could have been more refined. she looked smoldering in that red gown too which she wore for her performance. it was lovely!
nice but I’m missing some color
I don’t like this.
I don’t like this look. The dress is just OK and the hair ages her dramatically.
Amanda, we know you like to create etheral feel on the red carpet!! Although this Alexander McQueen dragonfly beaded halter gown is delicate and divine, but the makeup, the hair and maybe the colour totally washes you out!! Quite disappointed about this!! Hope you up your ante next time!!
meh Pretty, but not amazing. The color is rather muted and would love to see her in something brighter, like the red dress she wore on stage. This is sort of blah, and the keyhole piece kept buckling…not a smooth fit.
She seems a little older than she is but she’s really classy! Love it!
I watched the red carpet, and it looked terrible!! just terrible!!!
From the sdie you could see lot of sking hanging on the dress in the back (it was way too tight)
And also he neck detail was moving when she was walking…
it’s a fail!
Unlike the majority here I actually really love this look. The dress is fantastic and the styling is flawless. One of my top 3.
I actually really like this. I think she looks really beautiful!
