The Obama family arrived at St. John’s Church in Washington, D.C. this morning on Inauguration Day in very good spirits.
Michelle wore a Thom Browne custom navy jacquard coat and dress for the occasion, which she accented with a bejewelled J. Crew belt, her second bejewelled piece in so many days.
The rest of her accessories, by J. Crew, included purple gloves and grey kitten heels.
The First Lady also wore this look to the ceremonial swearing-in event, but she added navy Reed Krakoff knee-high boots to her look as the event was hosted outside.

I didn’t saw a pic of her with the boots, but I think I’ll prefer this look with them. The gloves and the belt look great with this coat.
love how well-coordinated the first family was at the inauguration, all in the pink-purple family.
Love it! The shape is beautiful on her. I also really like her haircut…
+1, and I love the colour of her gloves!
This woman and this look is everything!
Stylish, interesting, classy and fashionable. I love the belt over the coat and the boots were such a great choice.
Who says the first lady has to look stuffy and old lol
I think she looks stunning. I love the new do. The grey kitten heels are reading a hair light.
I love this coat. It doesn’t even need the belt.
I loved how she accessorized for the Inaugration ceremony…. I hope she wears Chado Ralph Rucci for the evening ceremony….
MAJOR. Michelle O is everything
+1
This coat is everything. Omg, I want that coat!
How tragic…one of the biggest days of her life and she shows up looking like a child who just raided her mothers closet. I hate everything about this.
Hopefully the bangs will be gone for tonights ball. They dont flatter her face one bit.
I’m not exactly sure what about this look says child raiding mom’s closet.
I couldn’t disagree with you more. I think her look is fabulous and stylish. Adding those raspberry gloves was just brilliant. For sure, we agree on one thing – our anticipation for tonight’s event.
The bangs look fabulous and she looks so elegant in the great coat. They work well with the pumps and the boots.
I love the gloves, actually this is a really great look. The pumps might be a bit light.
I love, love, love the coat and I think it looks great on her.
Thumbs up to the gloves, but both bright gloves AND fussy belt are too much. I wish she had saved the belt for another occasion, as I think it spoils the elegance of the coat.
She looked amazing, everything about this was perfect. she looked elegant but still fashionable and suited to her personality. can’t wait to see the gown tonight.
This is great – love the pop via the gloves. FC — I am surely not as well versed in fashion history as yourself so I was wondering – folks have been talking about Thom Browne being behind the slim cut men’s suit – but I’ve always associated it with Hedi Slimane. Which would you credit?
I love this coat so much, probably one of my favorite looks from the first lady ever. It’s just so modern & fashion forward but still maintains an essential elegance & dignity that fits the occasion. Thom Browne is genius.
When it comes to fashion, the whole family is pure perfection. This coat is classy, modern, great coat. I love it
Love the contrasting color of the gloves. She looks good with this haircut, she looks younger.
I need this coat. Ms O knows her fashion
