Jessica Chastain makes a return to Cannes Film Festival following her debut at last year’s event.
She graced the red carpet for the opening ceremony, which also hosted the ‘Moonrise Kingdom’ premiere, wearing a light-pink Alexander McQueen Fall 2012 gown with Louis Vuitton high jewelry.
The actress, who appears to have a phobia of carrying clutches, has finally found a dress with pockets so she has somewhere to put her empty hands.
Whilst I do love her minimalist approach on this occasion, the look is missing one element.
Do you agree? Or is the look fine as it is?

She seriously needs a clutch. Other than that she looks lovely.
Yes, a clutch would make a difference. However, she still looks beautiful.
I’ve never learned to carry a clutch so I feel her… Also, I think some clutches can look really awkward. Like they are carrying a watch/jewellery in their hands and forgot to put it on.
Am I the only one?
I like this look. I like the color on her – it makes her glow. This minimalistic style suits her.
Color. She is missing color. This makes her feel washed out, if not appearing washed out – because she doesn’t even have a eye-grabbing color on her lip. And the creases on this bug me…
I think she looks beautiful.
I think she either needs a statement necklace or the dress needs some sort of belt.
She is beautiful, though. Just a bit lackluster.
+1 I think she needs belt for sure,it’s bit plane like this, still nice thou
yes the dress is minimalist, but not necessarily in a good way! i don’t see any of the craftsmanship of mcqueen in it, it’s quite boring!!!
I like this look – it’s simple, clean and it fits her style. Her hair is beautifully styled and the colour is the perfect accessory.
Yes agree on all that
Couldn’t agree more that it’s missing something! Maybe a belt to break up the dress, seeing as it’s so plain.
Other than that her hair, makeup, and earrings are all beautiful.
This look is definitely missing a pop of color. If only her earrings were colored. Her hair and make-up is beautiful though.
she looks great, i don’t think there’s something missing. the dress is simple but very elegant, hair, make up & earings are gorgeous.
I think a super thin belt would have been a nice addition to this look. But she does look really pretty!
the dress looks so cheap. hair, make-up and earrings are nice.
Bold Emerald earrings would have worked for me.
She looks absolutely stunning! The colour of the dress suits her so well and the style is different from what she usually wears, so I love it! I also get the feeling that something is missing, but on the other hand, I don’t know what I would add to this look. I like that it is minimalistic.
Like the dress, jewelry, hair & make-up. I like her in McQueen’s.
I really like it as is – sans clutch works great for the minimalist look.
Her hair is truly her crowning glory. I like the simplicity. Breezy yet elegant, perfect for the French Riviera.
Of course a clutch, FC. That’s what she need.
I love JesCha, I do, but this look is meh.
Why is it meh? Lady Riley has her reasons:
It does nothing for her
Isn’t particularly unflattering
Washes her out
Ages her.
She needed emerald earrings and an emerald ring and rose gold strappy sandals.
I have given up on JesCha ever carrying a clutch.
I have come to the conclusion they hate eachother.
I agree. I was disappointed by this look as it doesn’t flatter and doesn’t stand out. I know she is capable of more—I think a belt would have helped this look as well, and a sleeker hairstyle. Fingers crossed for a better outing next time.
um…naah…not feeling this look at all. She’s missing colour. She should have atleast had some pop of colour via her lips or accesories. And she so needs to start carrying clutches…from now on.It would make her overall looks, look complete.
I would have added a beautiful pop of color, with a skinny satin ribbon to accentuate her waist!
Better than usual. But still not amazing by any means.
This look is crying out for a thin, but eye-catching, belt.
+1
yep–color somewhere–earrings, belt, lipsk, necklace, bangles–somewhere.
she needs a belt…
Yes, a belt would make this look much better.
yes, she needs something. a bra.
Something is missing. I don’t like it. Kinda blah
Today I was at a botanical garden for lunch with a friend and we walked down an allee of laburnum trees (in full bloom with bright yellow flowers)with a sea of pale pink flowers floating underneath – anyway, the moment I saw this, I went back to that color combo and wanted Jessica to have a bright yellow clutch to bring that lovely pale pink right into focus…..
She looks fresh and chic. Love the minimalist vibe…it’s not her movie, so she tones it down….
That u-neckline is too low and not flattering her at all. I miss a pop of color! And a clutch…come on, Jessica (coaxing tone)…just once, carry a clutch!
I think you’re right. For me, more (and bolder) jewellery would have done the trick. And maybe even simpler hair.
I love the look! Better than a lot of the looks I’ve seen on her. I like minimalism and pockets on dresses/skirts. The pockets worked in lieu of a clutch. I also think the paper illusion of the dress really suited her and offset her hard face with some softness.
a pop of colour maybe…
I think a belt or a statement neckalce, something similar to the lookbook styling would have made this look really great. She looks lovely though, finally bringing some good and consistent looks
SO missing the belt!
I think she doesn´t look flawless. This dress let me a dejavu with the Gwyneth Paltrow dress when she wons Oscar with her role in Shakespare in love. Do you remeneber the Ralph Lauren pink pastel dress? I love Chastain when she tooks the risk with the avant gard outfit. This AMcQ is not my favorite.
