Usually not one to make a fuss, Sandra Bullock stood out on the red carpet at the 2012 Oscars, held in Hollywood this evening.
The Oscar winning actress chose a Marchesa gown for Hollywood’s biggest night.
Her black-and-white silk crepe gown with gold embroidered detail around the waist lacks the typical Marchesa girliness and sparkle, but an elegantly draped back is a classic detail of the red carpet favourites.
While it’s impossible to deny the beauty of any Marchesa gown, this severe look is a bit too aging for the actress, and ultimately looks a bit ill-fitted.
A sleek ponytail and flawless makeup finish the look.

Who Was Your Best Dressed On Day 4 of Cannes Film Festival 2013?

i dont think it ages her at all, she is approaching 50 soon. i think she looks stunning! however i do agree about it being too big from teh top.
+1 she looks gorgeous
I love this gown on her. She looks fantastic.
Agreed FC. I found this a bit matronly.
I like the colors of this dress, the back is lovely but I must agree, it’s aging. The draped front / drop waist gives her no waist or definition. It strikes me as a hard dress to wear. What a shame, she’s a beautiful woman with a great figure!
Loved this look. I think the white part could have been a little less baggy in the front ’cause it makes her look like she has a tum-tum. But other than that, probably my favorite of the night.
Sandra is so pretty. I dont like the fit either. I saw an interview on CNN with georgina chapman where she says they do countless personalized fittings for the oscars. So they okay’d this fit.
Gorgeous dress, but what she did to her face??
+1. She looked like she had been frozen and couldn’t move her face.
Agreed. OMG what happened to her face? She definetely had a nose job.
I agree. She doesn’t look like herself.
I may be in the minority but I actually really like this. I am glad she took a risk
not my favorite look from sandra :S
The gown looked fine to me. Didn’t really stand out but pretty enough. It was Sandra’s face that surprised me. It looked so tight on TV that her face looked like a cat face. And the sleek ponytail made it worse.
i love the dress, not on her though, the fit on the top is too loose, and the dress makesher look short.. This is a look I would like to see Tilda Swinton in.
I feel like I should love this dress, but I don’t. The monochromatic black and white and the embellishment are beautiful. You are definately right about the ill-fitting thing, and it really does age her.
I definitely agree, it’s very ill fitting. And the ponytail doesn’t help making it look better.
i think this is stunning, love the details around the hips.
The back of the dress saves the look, because i really don’t like the way the dress fits her in front..
this is a dress angelina jolie should have picked if she is sticking with black and white, not that ugly black dress she got…..
Simplicity at its best. Sandra is not the one who dressed (hard) to impress. This is how she should look and boy she does look good !
its a drop waist dress. thats how its meant to fit. and the way it catches her bum behind is perfection
+1, love this!!
She had better red carpet moments, that’s true. But I still like this one. She looks pretty. I love Sandra so much. She’s one of my favs in Hollywood.
The top is ill-fitted but other than that I really like this gown.
I love Sandra, but this dress really isn’t very good :/
I sort of liked this. It looked comfortable and elegant. However, I wish the fabric for the top had been more fluid, had a little more drape to it and the fit could definitely have been improved. I think with a little more ‘slink’ to the top and a slimmer fit this would have been a knockout.
Agree 100% it had a lot of potential.
I actually really like this look. I haven’t always been a fan of Sandra’s style, because I used to find the dresses she wore rather unflattering for her, but this isn’t the case. This dress is simple, elegant and the embroidered detail at the waist is beautiful. I think this is one of her best looks!
i love this look its elegant and simple i loved it barvoooo sandra and she looks gorgeous i really like simple look so she wear the most beautiful dress
