End Of The Week Red Carpet Roundup

As the week draws to a close, we look back at some of the beauties who made statements on the red carpet.

Emily Blunt: The actress showcased the designer’s feminine charm in a brightly coloured Carolina Herrera Spring 2019 outfit at SiriusXM’s Town Hall with the cast of ‘Mary Poppins Returns.’ The frock will likely have many dreaming of spring.

Tracee Ellis Ross: The ‘Black-ish’ star embraced a glamorous disco spirit in Gucci Resort 2019 at Equality Now’s Make Equality Reality Gala 2018. It’s a completely different mood than the runway version and is in keeping with her bold aesthetic.

Glenn Close: Outfitted in Dior Pre-Fall 2018 with a Dior leather embroidered tarot clutch, the actress proved the merits of clean lines at the Museum Of The Moving Image Salute to Glenn Close.

Cate Blanchett In Derek Lam – ‘The House With A Clock In Its Walls’ LA Premiere

Cate Blanchett In Derek Lam - 'The House With A Clock In Its Walls' LA Premiere

When you think of suits, you think of Blake Lively thanks to her two-week run of wearing every style of suit imaginable while promoting ‘A Simple Favor.’

But you may have forgotten that it was actually Cate Blanchett that started this trend while promoting ‘Ocean’s 8.’

Well the Australian actress was back in the suiting mood while attending the premiere of ‘The House With A Clock In Its Walls,’ on Sunday (September 16).

With the long-line blazer and flared trousers this Derek Lam Spring 2019 suit was very unexpected from Cate.

I love the refreshingly modern finish that feels somehow classic on Cate, and the bold graphic checked canvas that packs quite a punch.

My feeling is this won’t be to everyone’s liking – perhaps the ’70s vibe from the flares may turn some off or the blue framed shades – but I’m enjoying the joyous mood.

Laura Dern In Derek Lam & Rodarte – ‘The Tale’ LA Screenings

Laura Dern attended ‘The Tale’ LA screening hosted by Film Independent at LACMA on Thursday (May 17) and the FYC screening on (May 20).

‘The Tale’ Screening: The rich forest green colour is divine with her colouring, but this Derek Lam Fall 2018 look comes across as very autumnal even with the sandals. I’m trying to overlook it, but it would have been more successful broken up.

FYC Screening: She typically gravitates towards more fluid silhouettes, but does like to switch it up, as evidenced by this Rodarte Fall 2018 look. With frills upon frills, it was sweet but the sheer fabrication of the top and simpler neckline prevented it from veering towards saccharine.

Gigi Hadid In Derek Lam – ‘Being Serena’ New York Premiere

Gigi Hadid was in attendance at the New York premiere of ‘Being Serena’ on Wednesday (April 25), joining lady of the hour Serena Williams.

After dazzling in a megawatt Atelier Versace mini-dress to celebrate her 23rd birthday, the model continued with the golden colour scheme in a Derek Lam Spring 2018 suit.

It might not have had the gilded finish of her birthday look, but it stood out for its oversized silhouette.

When the model does wear suits, they’re typically a sleeker style so this boxy jacket was a fresh change.

Christian Louboutin ‘So Kate’ patent leather and PVC pumps with kraft paper collage detail and EFFY Jewelry earrings elevated the sharp finish.

The bold beauty look also helped the suit shed any dowdy cooperate connotations.

Naomie Harris In Derek Lam – BBC Radio 1

After the ‘Rampage’ London premiere, Naomie Harris was seen the next day at BBC Radio 1 in London on Thursday (April 12).

Continuing to have fun with fashion, she found inspiration in the Derek Lam Fall 2017 collection for this decorative fringe dress.

I think it was the softer palette of hues that created an elevated aesthetic for this design that could have otherwise seemed a bit artsy-craftsy.

Add to that her sleek bob that once again brought such a modern edge to the textural look along with Jimmy Choo black pumps, and she rocked it beautifully.

There were certainly mixed emotions on her London premiere ensemble, so how does this directional offering fare with you?

Rachael Taylor In Derek Lam & J. Mendel – Build Series & ‘Jessica Jones’ Season 2 New York Premiere

Rachael Taylor put on a colourful display. First, she attended Build Series on Tuesday (March 6). Later, she joined Krysten Ritter at the ‘Jessica Jones’ Season 2 New York premiere on Wednesday (March 7).

Build Series: The actress demonstrated the high impact of colourblocking in a Derek Lam Spring 2018 ensemble. Rather than playing up one of the shades in the skirt, like on the runway, she opted for a black top and heels. Her orange-red lipstick provided a surprising injection of colour, adding to the sunny disposition of the outfit.

‘Jessica Jones’ Season 2 New York Premiere: She turned up the glamour in a J. Mendel Pre-Fall 2018 dress. The rich raspberry frock was strewn with dripping embellishment that made it look like it was coated in prismatic streamers. The long bow provided some relief against the sparkle and created a sharp line on the soft silhouette.

Laura Linney In Derek Lam – 2017 Tony Awards

‘The Little Foxes’ actress Laura Linney brought summery vibes to the red carpet at the 2017 Tony Awards on Sunday (June 11) in New York City.

Her custom Derek Lam gown hugged her in all the right places with the orange belt creating a beautiful silhouette.

This smile-inducing number took cues from the season and combined a patchwork of oranges, yellows, soft greens, and whites.

I would have like to have seen Laura adopt a more carefree approach to her hairstyling and her accessory choices. These might have brought some more cohesion to this celebratory look.
