Zendaya Wore Ashi Studio Couture To The ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ LA Premiere
Zendaya attended the LA premiere of Spider-Man: Brand New Day on Monday, and she was back in her black era. This time, though, it felt different. It felt like the conclusion to a story that has unfolded across this entire press tour.
Wearing another Ashi Studio Fall 2026 Couture look, Zendaya moved beyond the intricate spider-web references that have defined many of her recent appearances. If the Mexico City gown and Shanghai look interpreted the web itself, this design felt like Zendaya had become the spider.
At first, I thought this was a nod to Venom, Spider-Man’s most recognisable black-suited adversary. But the more I looked, the more that theory fell away. This isn’t referencing another character. It’s an abstract interpretation of a spider’s anatomy.
The sharply structured black corset forms the central body, while the dramatic plunging neckline creates elongated, tapering lines that echo the sleek silhouette of an arachnid. Spiders, of course, don’t have antennae, but the sculptural projections rising from the straps read like stylised sensory appendages, adding another layer to the illusion without becoming literal.
Then there is the extraordinary volume of the skirt. We’ve seen plenty of spider-web references throughout this press tour, often translated through embroidery or intricate surface embellishment. Here, the idea is expressed through shape instead. The immense pleated train feels like both the abdomen of the spider and the web unfurling behind it, with the architectural folds constantly gathering and unfurling. Looking at the videos, this was one of those rare pieces that appeared to be in motion even when she was standing still.
The beauty look pushed the concept even further. Her hair was slicked close to the head with sculptural tendrils placed across her forehead, giving it a more conceptual finish than we’re used to seeing from Zendaya. Combined with the smoky, darker eye makeup, the overall effect carried a slightly unsettling quality that perfectly complemented the dress.
As someone who is genuinely terrified of spiders, I’m going to need to lie down after spending this much time analysing their anatomy. But I imagine Law Roach and his team probably had to do something similar during the research process, because finding a couture gown that translates the body and anatomy of a spider with this level of precision is no small feat.
Law often says he’s one of one, and while that may sound bold – some might even say conceited – moments like this explain why. No one else is delivering a fashion narrative with this level of consistency, creativity and commitment across an entire press tour, especially with The Odyssey press tour running in between. Every appearance has built on the last, and this finale (if it is the finale) feels like the moment where every thread – or perhaps every strand of the web – came together.
Zendaya completed the look with Boucheron Lavalliere Diamants pendant earring and custom Christian Louboutin pumps featuring spider embellishments, ensuring that even the smallest detail remained true to the concept.
