Rama Duwaji Wore Miss Claire Sullivan To The New York Knicks Championship Celebration
As an Arsenal fan, I thought waiting 22 years for a league title was a long time. New York Knicks fans have been waiting 53 years.
That wait finally ended when the Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs in five games to win the NBA Finals. Today, thousands of fans flooded Lower Manhattan for a ticker-tape parade celebrating the historic victory, turning the city into a sea of blue and orange.

While New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani led the celebrations, the standout fashion moment came courtesy of his wife, Rama Duwaji.
The artist wore a custom creation by Miss Claire Sullivan, the designer behind the unforgettable look worn by Addison Rae at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards. Duwaji’s outfit transformed Knicks memorabilia into a celebratory fashion statement, combining a vintage NBA Finals T-shirt with layers of gathered fabric and an exaggerated skirt silhouette in the team’s signature colours.
I know some people will look at this and immediately say it feels homemade, or like something from a design competition challenge on Project Runway. But that is exactly why it works.
Championship parades are not red carpets. They are emotional, chaotic celebrations where fans wear whatever best expresses their devotion. Thousands of people lining the streets were wearing customised jerseys, hand-painted jackets and DIY tributes to the team. Duwaji’s look felt like an extension of that spirit.
In many ways, it captured the creativity and eccentricity that New York fashion has always embraced. Looking at the designer’s original tutu-inspired version shared on Instagram, I couldn’t help but imagine Carrie Bradshaw wearing it while running around Manhattan.
What made the outfit even more charming were the bright orange puff-ball earrings.
