Anne Hathaway’s Hand-Painted Michael Kors Look At The 2026 Met Gala
Fresh off her press tour for The Devil Wears Prada 2, Anne Hathaway was channelling The Princess Diaries while attending the 2026 Met Gala, but the look still felt on theme.
Wearing Michael Kors Collection, her strapless ball gown became a literal canvas, hand-painted by Peter McGough. The motifs – hands, a dove, and classical-style portraiture – feel deliberately placed rather than decorative, giving the gown a narrative quality that aligns directly with the idea of “Costume Art.”
There’s a sense of storytelling running through the design. The dove suggests peace, while the hands signal release.
On the back, the classical-style profile nods to Greco-Roman art, grounding the look in art history and balancing the more symbolic elements on the front.
The structure of the gown keeps everything balanced. The full skirt gives the illustrations space to breathe, allowing them to be read properly rather than getting lost in movement. The minimal styling was the right call here, with just a Bvlgari choker and stud earrings, plus Roger Vivier sandals, anything more would have competed with the artwork itself.
Where others took a more abstract route, Anne delivered something direct and legible, using fashion as a surface for imagery without an overcomplicated message.
I have a feeling that some will say they prefer this over her looks from the press tour.
