Timothée Chalamet Wore Tom Ford by Haider Ackermann To The ‘Marty Supreme’ New York Premiere

Following my article on Timothée Chalamet’s commitment to Givenchy leather for his Marty Supreme press tour, Rosanna said in the comments: “Can we go back to Haider Ackermann?”

Well, for the New York premiere, he did — Tom Ford by Haider Ackermann, to be precise — but it was all orange. Sang Coldplay’s “Yellow”.

You know I love a theme. I’m usually the first to side-eye a press tour that doesn’t even try to connect the dots. But two red carpet looks in, and I’m already ready for Timmy to move on. The colour link to the film is obvious. So obvious, in fact, that it starts to feel force fed.

I respect the commitment. The tailoring is smart (creases, not so much), the fit is relaxed without tipping into his usual sloppiness, and the scarf detail nods to Haider’s flair. On paper, this should work. In reality: one-note.

Granted, he can’t do a Zendaya and show up in heels with ping-pong balls attached, but even Margot Robbie didn’t wear pink for every stop on the Barbie press tour. And this is coming from someone who loved Blake Lively’s floral commitment for It Ends With Us. There’s a difference between committing to a theme and exhausting it.

While I’m relieved the baggy leather era has been paused — at least for one night — I can’t help feeling underwhelmed by the lack of imagination here.

Even when Timothée was clearly coasting during the Wonka press run, his charm filled the gaps. This time, the look does all the talking, and somehow still doesn’t say much.
